*****SHABBAT SHALOM MAY 16TH****

[ Edited ]

Shabbat Shalom and Happy Friday to everyone who come here at the end of the week.

Another stormy weekend here just like the last several ones. I don't remember having this much rain all at once. Our yard and garden areas are too well watered.

Sunday is a "Celebration of Life" for my dear friend who passed away several weeks ago. I don't know what to expect since I've never been to one of these. Thoughts?

Definite date of June 13th for the movers to come here for the first round of furniture and boxes and 2 weeks after for pantry items, appliances, cleaning products, freezer items and my studio things to set up. I'm getting a new painting table and storage units so they need to go there first. Shelves are being built in my closet, pantry, laundry room and the entry closet. My framed paintings and mirrors are over there along with patio/balcony furniture and 2 large planters I did last weekend. All finished paintings and commissions have been delivered to the gallery.

The realtor was here on Wed. and staged the house. My kitchen and bathrooms are upside down since knife blocks, any appliances, were taken away and pots of plants and my herbs were put in their place. No personal items can be out. The realtors in her firm come first next week for an open house in case they have clients who want to purchase and then the appointments begin. I get an hour notice to get myself and Molly out and leave everything as she did...all lights on and house neat and clean. FOR SALE signs go up Monday...that will be very difficult for me to see.

Have a happy, relaxing and safe weekend. Say a few kind words for those who may not even need them, but we never know. Find time for self care. I'm getting a rare mani/pedicure and massage tomorrow.

Shanus Heart

Shabbat Shalom @Shanus !

In my experience, a "celebration of Life"can be whatever the family chooses, but is usually completely non-religious...

Usually food is served. Often there are pictures boards, and speech(es)- People mingle and share memories of the loved one.

Not to be nosy, just curious... 🤣 So, are you moving far? Out of state? Closer to family? Downsizing? BEST WISHES for smooth sailing!

@Skyegirl21   Not nosy just curios. We're staying in town because DH still has his practice and working 3/4 time. I also still have my business with assistants running it and I'm "7/8" retired. Lol. Family is still close by and a large apartment but still downsized by several thousand square feet!! I think I posted a photo of the great room here. Thanks for asking and good wishes for a smoothe move.

Boy have we gotten a lot of rain this week. It is clear now but a thunderstorm is expected soon and again tomorrow.

@Shanus ...Celebrations of Life seem to be what people are doing now.

I have to say they are different (for me) if the deceased person was someone close to you or not. I am not a big fan of them when it is someone close to me. I have been to them for more distant deceased and thought they were fine.

You sure will be busy with this move. I bet you can't wait to be there and settled.

@DREAMON   I'm assuming she was cremated (not great to think about) and this is instead of the "burial".....

@Shanus .....yes the COL's I have been to were mostly after cremation but we did attend one that was held a few weeks after a burial. The burial was for the immediate family only.

@Shanus

Good Luck with all facets and chapters of the Great Move !!!

Had to smile when you wrote about the staging and all personal items banished from sight !  We went through that when we sold the mountain place three years ago.

DH came in after the stager and I had spent the day working together.  " It looks like nobody ever lived here " were his exact words.

The young stager ( late 20's ) and I worked well together and were able to resolve any difference of opinion easily.  What a surprise, esp. after she said she was an ex-Marine!

( I still think she had something against beautiful tissue boxes !!! )

Flying over head tomorrow afternoon as we return to Naples for settlement on the first floor condo and then staying for two weeks to deal with movers, setting up the new place, and working with our realtor to move forward on the sale of the old second floor condo.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.

@jlkz   So you've been there done that. Almost every display item is packed away somewhere and kitchen doesn't even look like anyone cooks there. Good luck and happiness in your new place.
