Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

It was downright cold this morning.  The sun is out now so I think it's going to be a lovely day.  We are scheduled to warm up all week.    Still didn't get the needed rain.    Tomorrow is Merle's surgery date to remove the squamous cell from the top of his head.   I've got my Kindle charged up so I have something to do.   Sometimes the biopsy gets enough of it that the surgery doesn't take many tries before they get it all but this one has been pesky.  Poor guy  he has had to have so many basal cell surgeries.   All the patients sit in the waitin room with bandages On  waiting to see if they got it all.   He is moaning cause he has a 6:30 Am time.    I told him it would be good to get it out of there early especially if I need to drive him home. (No way is that going to happen).

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Betty, I'm sure most of the patients look like the walking wounded.

When I visited the orthopedic guy last December for my shoulder, I saw people being wheeled in, walked in on crutches and walkers and generally gimping along.  I was grateful that it was only my shoulder giving me fits.

Honestly, the people in my ortho's waiting room were so messed up it looked like a group of people visiting a significant religious place in the hopes of a healing.

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

LOLOL oh, Bernie, your last comment cracked me upSmiley Very Happy

Betty best wishes for Merle; hope all goes (went) well and that you have (had) good reading. I just finished a good one.

Bernie, don't down play your shoulder giving you fits as I've been there done that and know from experience with both shoulders and one hip that it ain't a picnic. I'd hoped to avoid surgery with each site, but wound up under the knife and hope you'll be able to avoid that. I've been MIA and have not read a lot of the post's so you may have addressed this issue and it's already a done deal that surgery is in your future.

My RA has been doing the same thing for me i.e. giving me fitsSmiley Sad  My NP suggested that a parafin bath might help so I called Sally's and they had a kit and Jim went down and got it and I've been using it and it is soothing and seems to help my pain. I see my RA doc in a few days to see what he's determined will be the best treatment.

Our plumbing problem is still not repaired. We have a gaping hole in our front yard with attractive orange cones surrounding it awaiting our plumber to find time to finish the job and or the rain to stop so the hole can dry out. We have not heard from said plumber though he may be dropping by from time to time to check on the drying out process. We who seldom get rain have had so much this job cannot be fisnished is just bizarre. Thankfully the plumber did turn our water back on so at least we can survive and were only without a couple of days.

We're having soup tonight with pumpernickel; sure is yummy dipped into the hot soup!

Happy Mondy all! Sue

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Sue, I've never seen that many jacked up patients in one spot at one time before.  My issue was frozen shoulder - it's fine now, thanks to the cortisone shot from back then.  I had frozen shoulder in my left shoulder in 2004 and in my right shoulder a decade later in 2014.  Hopefully that's it for my lifetime.

Sue, my eldest sister has RA and has infusion therapy every 4 weeks.  I feel so bad for RA patients because the treatment usually involves 'biologics' that scare the poop outta me.

I cannot believe the plumbing issue is still not fixed.

They were supposed to start construction, street replacement on the last 6 or 7 houses on the block on this side of the street today.  That would affect my house/driveway.  I parked in my garage last night and moved the car at 6:45 this morning, anticipating the 7am start noted in the letter that was stuck on my front door last Friday.  I thought I would come home tonight and see nothing but dirt and dozens of orange barrels.  They did nothing today.  Maybe tomorrow.

The most disappointing part of this is that some of the new street that was poured less than 2 weeks ago across the street has small chunks missing.  I have no idea why the construction company allowed motorists to drive on the new side only 7 days after pouring the cement.

Tax dollars at work (rolling my own eyes).

I like a good pumpernickel bread (yumm).

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

We are suppose to have a big storm tomorrow - say a prayer that report is accurate. Right now it has cooled way down. Am sitting here in my hot weather pj's and I probably will toss the slanket over my shoulders - and this is in the evening. Common to do that in the morning but rare this time of day. Yippee!!

Was really busy today - dinner tonight is bagel bits OR some of the food int he fridge - all are on their own to decide and fix - am boycotting the kitchen tonight.

Hope all had a great day and hope all are doing super well -also hope all aches and pains gone when you awoke this morning.

Freddie, I'm glad it's cooler there. Let the kids fend for themselves :-)

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Hello all -  the sun is shining and it's not stifling hot, so the weather is agreeing with me :-)

I wonder if I might ask that you pray for my co-worker Ruth.  After nearly 35 years of working at my company, I can safely say that Ruth is the closest thing to a friend that I've made here throughout the years.  I started working with her in 2008 when I was re-org'd the last time and she and I started talking about a year into me being in the area.

She is 65, soon to be 66 in less than two weeks and is very ill.  As is often the case, her type of cancer did not present itself until it was advanced stage.  It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks for her.  She went to the doctor to find out why she was having problems with her appetite and feeling nauseous for a couple of weeks.  I appreciate that her new doctor (old one retired) took it seriously and within a week, the diagnosis was leaning towards cancer of the lung that moved to the liver.  A pulmonologist pretty much confirmed the cancer and she had a liver biopsy last Thursday.  She is officially on sick leave.

She won't get the biopsy results and information from the oncology people until next week.  They need to meet with the tumor board and various specialists regarding the approach for treatment.

Although we never socialized outside of work, we talked all the time.  What forged the friendship was we learned that she lives in the neighborhood that I came from.  Not many people at work can say that.  I know the same streets, remember the businesses that used to be there and in that we share a history.

I know, from my limited experience that her situation is grave and likely stage 4.  I keep that type of thing to myself and when Ruth says she wants to fight it and be healed, I support her 100% because really, with God all things are possible.

The neighborhood that she is in is very isolating.  Our team has decided to send cards regularly.  I plan on sending flowers and talking to her on the phone as much as she can stand it.  I told her when I first read the paperwork with that foul word cancer on it - I love you Ruth and you don't let go of me and I won't let go of you, deal?

If she can handle a visit from me - I'll be there.

So, if you have any room on your prayer list, could you please add Ruth?  She is a good Christian, good daughter to her elderly parents that live next door (why Ruth won't move), good mother to 2 sons, one of which is special needs, good sister, good friend, good worker.

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Sorry to hear about your co worker.  I'm glad you are there for her.   Merle had the Squamish removed from his head yesterday.  He'll get tge stitches out next week.  They were able to get it all so that is a good thing.  He doesn't have a lot of hair on top so it really pained him to pull out some with the bandage.  He is quite bruised behind the wound I think from the fr squeezing together before sewing.  He is on a blood thinner so bruises easily plus he said it really hurt when they did that.   Sue, so sorry about your accident. Hope you and Jim don't feel some pain today.  Hope they got the driver too.   Gotta go supervise the new bandage.
