Re: Replacing a Refrigerator Ice Maker

[ Edited ]

JMO don't waste your $$$.  My Samsung ice maker died at 1.5 years old -- they fixed it several times under warranty.

After that I couldn't find any repairman to service Samsung (they all claimed lots of issues w/Samsung).

For years now I've been using ice cube trays NOW it's leaking water under my crisper drawer 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I hope I don't need to buy a new one anytime soon.  I'd say your lucky you got 8 years out of your ice maker @rockygems123

Re: Replacing a Refrigerator Ice Maker

Samsung Ice makers are notorious for breaking. Ask any repairman. I loved my Samsung appliances but they were in constant repair. Ditched all the regular brands and when I remodeled my kitchen two years ago I decided to go with a luxury brand. Worth every penny!

Re: Replacing a Refrigerator Ice Maker

Do you use the ice maker all the time? I have one in my refer that is in the freezer , that I never use. The water here is so gross tasting and it makes a racket making ice.  Does the refer work normally without it? Do you really need it? 8 years for a refer is not that long, is it? I have NO idea what the life span of modern appliances is anymore. My refer in the house I sold was still going strong after 20 years.Got told by a repairman that was a good brand , easy to fix and parts were still available. but that was during the good ole days too---- $500 is alot.

I bought a Samsung in 2024 and never hooked up the ice maker.  I make trays.  One less thing to break.

@sunshine45
Agree, and especially when I have a house full of my family and everyone is getting ice the whole time they’re here. Trays would never be enough.

@wagirl

I do use ice everyday I drink lots of ice water. As for the rest of the refrigerator I love it.

Still thinking on this one as to which way I'll go.  Will call around to see what repairmen have to say.  Smiley Happy

Re: Replacing a Refrigerator Ice Maker

An update from my previous post:  I just ordered a new ice maker from Amazon for $251.  My appliance repair person gave me the model number to order and he will install it when it arrives.

@LizzieInSRQ :I replaced my ice maker  in my ge side by side twice under warranty. Finally purchased the old fashioned Whirlpool basic freezer on top and fridge on bottom. I wanted the nugget ice maker but couldn't afford the expensive ones. Finally on one of the Amazon prime days purchased a nugget ice maker and knew nothing about the brand name but reviews were great. Best purchase ever made. Yes had to give up some counter space but makes a difference.

Im so glad you have one! I bought one last year from Amazon. Euhomy brand. Good reviews. I didnt set it up right away ( my fault). When I did, i tried for 10 days to get it to work. When I called Euhomy, I could never get ahold of anyone. Had to leave 3 messages. Never got a call back. When I contacted Amazon they said sorry, its no longer returnable , longer than 30days. ( it had been 32 ugh). They told me to contact Euhomy.sigh.

I ended up throwing out $149 in the trash.

I will try again when i have the money to spare. I still really want one. Maybe just one I can pickup rather than one that can possibly be damaged in delivery.

What brand is yours?
