last night at 0200 I got up as usual to feed the cats, let dog out, eat a snack. I turned on the kitchen light. There was a humongous fat black spider scurrying around. Im scared and repulsed by spiders. Quickly I smacked it with my flip flop. Squish. But OH NO! Immediately about a gazillion teeny tiny baby spiders are running all over the floor. Spreading fast! Took a few seconds to comprehend what i was seeing.Then I grabbed the first thing I could get from under the sink. Bottle of clorox cleaning spray. Blasted those little suckers til they were drenched and DEAD. They had been very very close to cabinets, stove. Literally sprayed down everything within a three foot radius.

I am still so freaked out. *shudder*

Holy moly I'm freaked out just hearing about it.  The pets will have to wait until morning and you might get some sleep.  Although we both know the pets won't wait lol.

Probably a wolf spider. They carry their babies and egg sacks on their back. When people squish them, the babies go running in an attempt to survive the attack.

I will never understand the reason people feel the need to kill everything they are afraid of. You could have easily trapped it and released it back outside.

That's horrendous!! Several years ago, the same thing happened to my friend in her classroom when we were cleaning our rooms to prepare for a new school year. The whole building heard her scream, I think. Smiley LOL We were SO grossed out by it! Smiley Frustrated

Oh that sounds like a nightmare!....but I had to laugh!

I went through a phase about fifteen years ago where I was killing or getting my DH to get huge wolf spiders in the basement.  At least once a week I would see one.  It got the the point where I would spray it with my spray adhesive to slow it down then wack it with a board.  I had my Etsy shop going at the time and would make signs.  Those boards came in handy.

Finally DH sprayed around the foundation of the house and they were gone. Thank goodness!

For whatever reason I have always been afraid of spiders.  Wolf spiders are not cute and creep me out.  I'm not killing them outdoors but if they come into my home uninvited they are going out the easiest and fastest way I can get them out.

@smoochy  -  How gross!  Your story is making my stomach turn.  I'm also scared of spiders - even though the majority are harmless.

My daughter thinks just like you @KittySoftPaws .  She would never kill a spider.  I would.  She got mad when we killed a little snake in our yard.  She said the snake was harmless.

@San Antonio Gal

Yea, the 15 very young ring necked black snakes that got into my basement last year were harmless too, but they still died!

@smoochy  What a terrible experience to have when it's an insect that you are afraid of.
