Had a beautiful handmade to order wedding dress. Catholic church wedding. Lavish reception. Don't know the cost as my parents footed the bill. A couple of beautiful children followed. Only to eventually end in divorce. 💔
The end.

We had a family wedding but . . . I grew up with my mom and her family, 3 days before our wedding my great aunt with whom I lived died, her funeral was the morning of our wedding. We did not cancel the wedding, I knew my Aunt Marie would have wanted it to go on, so we did it that way and I know she was with us. Only had 125 or so at the reception which was held at a private club. It was a fun time, small and filled with family and closest friends from both sides. It was the first day of trout season so my step-dad went fishing between the wedding and the reception!! LOL! That was 4/14/1984.

wedding #1- simple white long sleeved gown in a soft jersey knit. Headpiece was a white braided wreath with a silky flowing veil attached to the back.I was petite. My groom told me i looked like a wood nymph as i walked down the aisle. Lol i bet he cringes at that now. If he even remembers. Married in a university chapel. To the chagrin of my groom who was agnostic. Red flag number 1 that I foolishly ignored. Two attendants for each of us. Reception in a Holiday Inn around 90 guests. Buffet and open bar. June 1979. Our special song that we danced the first dance to, was Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel.
He divorced me 17 yrs.and two children later so that he could be with his girlfriend. They got married and had three kids.
Wedding #2- courthouse in December 2000. I wore a pale blue suit with satin lapels and cream colored pumps. We had my teenage kids stand up with us. Then we went to Bob Evans for breakfast. A great day with the right man. Still married and headed towards our 25th anniversary in December. 🙌

Yep, punch, cake, nuts and pastel party mints! The whole shebang was not of my doing, I had no interest in being a "bride" and putting on a show. Mom and MIL took over, I chose my flowers, the color of icing that trimmed the cake, and showed up at the appointed time with a smile on my face!

My first wedding , I was 35, 1987. I paid for the wedding. In cluding my $300 wedding dress that was on sale and other wedding expenses less than $3000. My cousin owned a flower shop and was a wedding planner. She gave me a discount on everything , about 200 attended. Future MIL thought since my mother was deceased
she insisted I call her "Mom" and she plan everything but insisted that I pay for everything. I told her that I would never call anyone else Mom, that made everything worse because she didn't like me.
I should have run out of the church to escape future problems when I saw what she was wearing. The bride wantabe. Total waste of time and money. Less than 5 years, the girlfriend that dropped DH to marry someone else, was divorced and returned to town, MIL loved her. DH quickly left me. I got the divorce and my maiden name back and thank God no kids.
Fifteen years later, met a very special man in church. First time he proposed, I said no. He said he would not give up because he was determined to marry me.
When we went to get the marriage license, my friend was working in that office. She took her lunch break and interviewed DH. DH was honored that someone cared that much for me. Friend told me that if she wasn't already married she would marry him. She told me: please say yes.
Future BIL arranged small wedding and reception at his church. Less than 20 people.Had a small wedding cake, sandwiches, chips, nuts, mints and punch. BIL band played music at reception. Best party ever. I had two friend that worked at JC Penny's. Wedding rings purchased in the jewelry department. New jacket and tie for DH . Very nice church dress purchase for my Wedding drees. Our clothes and rings total price $500. Next month we will celebrate our 23rd Wedding Anniversary. I had a few friends and co-workers that told me not to marry because it would not last. Just accept the facts and move forward.
