Occasionally, I get a friend request from a man I don't know.  I had a request from a top employee at a funeral home where I had been supporting a close friend when she lost her mother, whom I loved.  Apparently, he looked at my friend's FB (whos name he obviously knew) and found me listed as her friend.

I also have an occasional marine or someone else of that nature friend me.  I mark them as spam.

My filters say I'm married and a retired teacher.

Is anyone else having this?

Thank you.

I have gotten friend requests from men and women I do not know.  A few have been from overseas.  I do not accept any friend requests unless I know them.  Most are "friends of friends", but I still don't accept them.

@twinsisterThank you.  Mine aren't "friends of friends".

I think I'd feel uncomfortable if a strange man suddenly decided he wanted to be my "friend." 😞

I've been on Facebook for many years, and have only had this happen a few times, not often at all.  If I don't know the person, I delete the request.  And that's the end of it.  If someone is persistent, you can block them, but I've never had to do that.  I simply click on "delete request", and it's over and done.

I only accept friend requests from people I actually know.  All of my posts are designated for "friends only".  The public view of my profile shows pretty much nothing since my settings are all very tight.  There's no indication if I'm married, where I live, who my FB friends are, etc

Some people use Facebook to meet new people, so it's not necessarily horrible if someone reaches out.  I'm not there to meet new people, though, so I just delete the request.

I do get them and I delete them. The only people I accept on face book are the people I know. It is easy to get hacked also from friend request. It sounds odd but their are people out there that just thrive on that kind of thing. If you really don't know someone it is better to just not accept the request.

Re: Question For FB Users

[ Edited ]

No because I control who can request to be friends.

In privacy settings there's a section for who can send you a friend request.

Also my privacy settings on all pix, posts and personal info are strict so random people can't see any of that.

@ECBG

I agree with these posts. Same for me and the unknown people who send requests, which only happens rarely.

My policy is generally not to reply to any posts classified as”public.”

I do “share” public posts...generally cute animal or kiddie stuff,

ie: a news channel may have a “live” broadcast in progress. If I join in with a “live” discussion that is going on, it seems more likely that someone unknown might send a friend request.

I just delete these and forget about them.
