The Red Hat Society is based on

this poem

that begins

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go,

and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on

brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,

and say we've no money for butter........"

(by Jenny Joseph)

The members usually dress in purple

with red hats and sometimes are called

"the purple ladies". So sometimes that's

the meaning.

😊

Thats what I think if when I hear about the "purple ladies."

Re: Purple Ladies

[ Edited ]

I am a Purple Lady, I just love the color!  so many of my tops are in purple, our spare bedroom is done in shades of purple, when I wear purple is when I receive the most compliments, so what is there not to like about loving purple, LOL, it is a win win for me!

@Moonchilde Oh, thanks for the picture. WOW! It has been a long time since I have seen a similar group of ladies; mostly in restaurants when I have seen them.

They look like they really have fun!

Thank you for the reminder @newziesuzie! It has been many years since I read the poem- so that fits for the Red Hat Society. 😊

Thanks to @Moonchilde for the cute photo, too. They looked like a fun and feisty group of ladies. Not my personal style, but to each their own.

@blackhole99 I looked up Ultra Marine, not knowing that was the upcoming fashion color for 2018. Thanks for the tip. What I saw was a beautiful, rich lapis shade. Should be a hit with many. I'd love a jacket or sweater in that solid color.

@World Traveler, I don’t see such groups as often as I used to (which was not all that often to start with). I think the last time was about a year ago or so, visiting one of the CA missions as a group.

@CareBears, like you I love to wear purple (looks good on me and makes me happy) but don’t have the personality to be a Red Hat lady; it’s just not me. Not that there’s anything wrong with it/them, but I’m an introvert and quiet.

@World Traveler  I've been with QVC since day oneand i'm surprised that no one has mentioned Kathy Levine (original Q host) on this thread!

As far as QVC is concerned, it was Kathy who often mentioned "her purple" girls while selling jewelry or fashion!  Kathy loved wearing purple and regularly encouraged fellow purple lovers in her presentations!  From amethyst jewelry to clothing colors, she was always enthusiastic about purple!

I do think Kathy brought up the Red Hat Society as well.  I may recall some members being in a live audience on occassion.  Anyone else have these memories?  Cheers! ~sue : )
