My heart goes out to you.  I lost Mom 2 years ago at Thanksgiving.  I really miss her too.  Losing Mom changed my outlook on a number of things.

@RedTop I can relate to what you expressed. Mid sixties - keeping it simple - it's futile to think we can make 'magic' for others beyond giving special moments. I shared a similar phrase to my stressed children, who are parents, about second-guessing their efforts at Christmas. Keeping it simple.

It’s not so much the post-holiday blues, as it is “winter blues.” I look forward to the days getting noticeably longer, which happens by the middle of January, and when they start mentioning the number of days till spring training for the baseball season.

This is the time to rest and think ahead to the new year with hope.

@Chicagosuburbangirl   Yes, our Christmas continues till then. Although the tree had to go as it was dropping needles and I was afraid to light it. 

We have a beautiful Nativity set my MIL made in ceramics. The figures are quite substantial and many of them. I found a manger about two feet long and many things came with it that they would have needed in those times. We have some lights on it.

I am thrilled when the holidays are over.  Itis way too much hype for one day.  I try to keep it as low key as I can.

If I could, I would take a vacation over Christmas and not even be home to avoid it altogether.

The holidays that we see on TV don't exist in real life for most people. After all that work putting all that stuff out, we get to put it all away.

The actual Christmas season does not begin until December 25 and lasts 12 days.  People start in November and put everything away on December 26.

I am looking forward to spring and the garden catalogs...thank goodness Christmas has passed.

I dislike now until September.  Fall is my favorite time and it lasts for such a short time.

I, too, feel down when the holidays are over.  The lights on the houses in the neighborhood are so beautiful, but when they are gone everything looks very dark.

 DH and I were born and raised in north east PA;  after getting married we lived in northern Indiana, then northern Vermont.  Having snow for Christmas and throughout the winter was what we and our 2 older children were used to.  However, we moved south and our part of NC does get snow, but it's rare.  So, we don't have big snow storms to enjoy, yes, I did say enjoy!  Our younger son loves cold weather and snow even though we moved south when he was only 4.   When we do get even a small amount of the white stuff, everything closes;  adults are off work and have fun making snowmen and, on rare occasions, sledding!  

After the excitement of the holidays there is not much to get excited about until spring.

I take my time decorating and I take my time putting it all away....then it doesn't seem so depressing.

I leave my snowmen out....some of my Village and my 3 ft Alpine trees with white lights as sort of "winter decorations"
