I think I'll go back and pick a good year. Just to see how different or even the same things changed or remained the same.
1963: song was Blue Velvet, Bobby Vinton
The trend was the mini skirt
headline: about President Kennedy being shot
Mini skirts were not popular in 1963. I know because that's the year I graduated from high school. We wore strait skirts and sweater sets, short puffy hair. Mini skirts were popular in 1971. I wore those then. I am not trying to be rude but I was there.
I was there, too, and the miniskirt was a huge part of the '60s. It might not have been THE trend in '63, but by '64 it was on its way. Think Mary Quant, Twiggy and the British Invasion. Then, of course, there was the micro mini. They officially celebrated the mini's 50th anniversary in 2014.
By the end of the decade the midi was getting more popular and in '71 I owned my first maxi. In the '70s you could wear a mini, a midi, a maxi -- and even gauchos. All alternatives to the ever-popular jumpsuit. ![]()
