I do have the Nomorobo on my home landline, and it does catch all the robo calls after one ring and cuts them off.  After a couple days I look at my phone and will have 10-12 missed calls.  It's interesting to note the various ID's and numbers as I go through them to delete them.  I have 3 different exchanges for my home landline, cell phone, and work phone.  When these calls come in, they usually have spoofed a number starting with whatever exchange corresponds with that particular phone.  Like most of you, I never answer my phone unless it comes up with a name I know.

I also receive those with my phone number. A new one on me was with the number 000-000-0000. LOL!!!

If I don't know the # I don't answer period.

I press the silence button so I don't have to listen to it ring.

Or they spoof just the prefix to mimic yours so you might think it is someone you know or is close by..

Your own name and number!  Strange.  I've been getting calls from local numbers and local names within our small city.  I don't answer now but the first time I did and it was not that person.  My phone rings constantly all day.  Even the one ring ones are getting annoying.

@this is my nicYou can block your own number as you can't be in the Family Room and call your Kitchen with that number anyway. They can spoof it since they really are calling from another number. I have my own number blocked through the phone company. Nomorobo dot com works well, too.

@shopperqvc,

Yes, there is an app that can be used so the actual number calling isn't seen.  A person living in NY can receive a call that looks like a local number, but is actually coming from California.  I'm glad you were able to block your own number.  If you use Nomorobo, it just blocks computer generated calls, not anything else, right?

Thank you!

@this is my nicYes, nomorobo only blocks the calls where there isn't a real person on the line. You can still receive voice calls. But, it has helped cut down on the automated calls. They will figure out a way around that too, but enjoy it while you can.

@Equuleus

I also get calls with local names and numbers from my area. It's scammers because there is no reason for these people to call me since I don't know any of them. I guess since people are using cell phones today and not home phones there is an abundance of phone numbers for scammers to use.

My phone has a silence button on it I can press so I don't have to listen to it ring.
