I pay all my bills online through my bank. I refuse to allow any business to deduct payments from my bank account automatically.

I have every bill that I can autromatically charged to a credit card, and then I pay that one credit card bill on-line. I also get very bill that I possibly can electronically. The less paper I get, the better. It only becomes problematic for me when I'm gone for more than 30 days at a time, as that's the longest that the post office will hold mail. Then I either do a temporary address change or use their premium forwarding service depending on the circumstances.

One thing I forgot to mention ..... not only can you have the payment made to be paid on whatever date you like, but if you have a recurring payment, you can set that up, as well.
For instance, if you pay $100 a month every month with a due date of the 23rd, you can set it up to pay monthly, and you are never late, and never have to make time to write a check. It's such a time saver!

I never go on vacations that are that long that it's an issue.
I do begin using my bank's on-line billpay so when I was gone for a week last month, I set up everything to come out of our account when it should.

Do not send in 3 payments in advance. The computer has no way of knowing why you are sending that amount of money and when it does not receive money between the bill date and the next bill date, it is OVERDUE as far as the computer knows.

My neighbors go sailing in the San Juan Islands for several months in the summer. About once a month one of them takes a sea plane home to check on the house, mail, bills, etc.

This type of situation applies to the parents of a friend of mine who have lived in SC 6-9 months of the year for about 7 years now. Son lives beside his parents, and gets their mail every day. My friend picks up the mail from her brother every week, has her parents checkbook on their local account, and writes checks to pay their bills.

All bills are taken out automatically every month with our banks bill payer service. Only bill that has to be paid is our lot payment and water bill of the property we are building on. Don't owe credit card anything but if it has to be used for something online or a hotel we just go online and pay it.

I have most of our monthly bills set up for "auto pay". The only thing I concern myself with is making sure I have an adequate amount in the account on the "auto withdraw" date. I always follow up checking that the right amounts were withdrawn.
Some we pay quarterly, some via online, others mailing a check. Most service companies, which we have used extensively since our basement flooded with sewage, take our debit card. Those that don't, their office sends us a bill, which we can pay via debit card over the phone, or mail it to them by check.
Haven't been in a big bank since the Police detained me for almost 4 hours, in handcuffs, back in late 2013. Issued me a No Trespass Order.
That is how we handle our bills. Extended vacation, what's that? Never been on one and don't feel like I have missed a thing. Now my wife? She loves 'em, but then I am always here to take care of the home front.
If this means you have one coming up, and it is something you like doing? Enjoy yourself now.
