The sky has turned a taupe-y brown color from all of the fires around. No sun, it's been obscured by the smoke.  Wind is still howling 50mph.  Weather people are saying this sort of thing will be more common as the days go farther into summer....ugh.

Re: Paging On It

[ Edited ]

We have a "crawler" across the bottom of the TV screen listing all the fires and evacuations that are underway.

@On It   I haven't heard anything else about Cloudcroft.  Maybe the local fire department was able to extinguish it.*

 Calf Canyon fire near Mora growing rapidly and may merge with Hermit Peak fire which  is also growing. I25 North of Albuquerque almost impassable due to low visibility.

* They did get Cloudcroft under contol

@On It

My dad, who is not with us now, owned a home in Ruidoso. He lived there with my stepmom for a long time. She and her side of the family are quarter horse breeders from West Texas. I've been to Ruidoso several times. It's beautiful.

That is sad when a crawler is needed to mention all the fires. This seems like the worst it has ever been.

I am glad you are familiar with Ruidoso. I am sorry your dad is no longer with you but glad you were able to spend time with him there. My parents began taking me there in my childhood, and I would rather spend my summers there than anywhere.

A sister is not doing well and is in a locked memory care unit in Santa Fe and knowing that she may be disturbed by smoke is unsettling.

 Blow some fresh air her way please.

@Kachina624 @On It  So sorry to hear of the devastation to your area.

Many years ago, my dad was a civilian working for the Air Force at White Sands.  We stayed in CA and went to visit him on occasion.  We would take day trips to Riodoso and Cloudcroft.  It's a beautiful place, and it saddens me to hear that so much of it has been destroyed.

Stay safe.

@Kachina624 I just looked at the Ruidoso webcam. The cluster of pines that serve as my wind benchmark are swaying considerably. That is a lot of wind this early in the day. Are things any better in your area?
