@ECBG   Maybe one day you'll be at the store, look up and there will be a little grey haired lady...dressed in all black wearing pearls and an arm full of silver bangles. SURPRISE!!!

@Shanus It would be a pleasure to meet you.  Right now I'm not getting many hours.  Let me know, ok?  I'll tell you when I work, it may be for lunch instead!Smiley Happy

Re: OMG!!! ROOF LEAK/WATER DAMAGE

WOW, Can I relate!!! We had a new airconditioning unit put into our second floor attic. The day after installation we went on a 7 day  cruise. When we got home we found that our house had flooded on both levels and black mold was crawling up the walls. It turns out the unit was sloppily installed and overflowed. We live in a very hot, humid climate so the mold moved in fast. It took six months of living in a hotel with our pet, complete mold remediation and remodel. Our insurance would have dropped us if we made a claim because we are in hurricane territory and these companies can drop you over anything. We ended up having to sue the airconditioning company and its still ongoing. SO I FEEL YOUR PAIN!! Now you will get the choice to make your home just the way you want it!! Best of luck!!!

Mind passing along insurance company name?  So many horror stories.

Find a bright spot each day and keep eyes on big picture.  Best of luck with work ahead.

@furbabylover   Oh Wow! Sorry you went through this, too. The damage is aggravating and devastating enough without the legal hassle, right? After 9 months of our attorney trying to get something accomplished with the roofing co., that's when he and we contacted the homeowner's insurance and their attorney to hit them harder.

Yes, NC is hot and humid as well and that's why the comprehensive mold treatment, but we were assured our premiums will not be increased or our policy affected in any way.

@Twins Mom   I'll be more than happy to do a little advertising for them. We have Nationwide and obviously they ARE "always on your side".

Wow what an ordeal.

This is a good reminder on why you need to have a good insurance company.

I am reading some horror stories in my community Nextdoor page about insurance companies not paying out claims for homeowners due to lightening strikes and fire damage.

Cheaper insurance is not always better.

Re: OMG!!! ROOF LEAK/WATER DAMAGE

You are so lucky about your insurance company. Here in Florida insurance companies can drop you at a hat for even very minor claims. Two years ago we put in a claim for $5,000. roof damage, which we rescinded because we thought it might raise our insurance. Therefore the insurance company paid NOTHING. Two weeks later we got a notice of cancellation for just placing the claim!! We tried to argue it but it was

Re: OMG!!! ROOF LEAK/WATER DAMAGE

@Shanus

The only thing worse, in my opinion, than water damage, is a big fire in one's home. I am very sorry to read this as these things are just plain bad.

I have unfortunately had both roof leaks, and dealt with water flooding. The worst for us by far was not water damage, it was sewage. Both major floods in our home were when I was in 1 of my many, long term hospital stays.

I won't go into all the details, but sewage sat in our 2 bathrooms/master bedroom/hallways, and finished basement for over 2 weeks because of my hospitalization.

It took months and hours arguing with my home owner insurance company, and it still did not end well. "Full Replacement Insurance" is not what most insured think it will be.

I am really sorry this happened to you and hope the best outcome possible for you and your family.

@hckynut   John, sounds like you sure had your troubles with sewage and insurance. We're so lucky we're 100% covered. I think the company's attorney saw what we had been dealing with trying to get the roofers back to fix their errors. When they made no headway, the anger started boiling over and the roofing company had met their match.

Thanks for your good wishes. I'm sure it'll be h*ll living in the house during repairs, but at least it will be fixed.

Stay well.
