What kind of jobs have you had? Feel free to list anything & everything & any comments.

Here’s my list in chronological order:

Preteen - Babysitting - I enjoyed reading, singing songs, & playing games with kids.

Teen - I wore the ugly brown uniform when I worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken - Lasted about a year - Hated it.

Went back to babysitting.

College - Tutoring - I loved working with students who needed extra help.

Paula York Temporary agency hired me out in the summers to work temporary office jobs. I also worked in the office of a local furniture store. I figured out very quickly I did not want to do office type bookkeeping or paperwork as a career.

Career - Taught for 32 years - mostly science to 6th, 7th, & 8th graders - loved it. I had to retire early for health reasons or I’d still be teaching today.

During my teaching career I also managed a summer day care and sang in a band. I’ve also been paid to sing weddings, funerals, & other events in my city. Teaching & singing are definitely my favorite things to do and getting paid to do them has been a blessing.

I worked at a small convenience store while in high school. I also worked at 'The Hub' roller rink in Chicago a bit beyond high school to help support my skating habit and earn a little extra cash.

I did start junior college, but left when I had to leave home. I got a desk job at a bank within walking distance to an apartment I shared with 2 other young women. One became a good friend. We saved our money, quit out jobs, and traveled around the country for 2 months. That was great fun. When I came back to Chicago, I got a job with Macmillan Inc. This started a long career in data processing from tape librarian, computer operator, telecommunications, supervisor, and network design and planning. I worked for several organizations in these positions. In the late 80's I had done everything I could with a computer, so I left to pursue another career.

I worked odd jobs through a temp agency while enrolling in a 2 year Radiologic Technology degree program at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. At the end, I got a job in Chicago and moved back there and stayed for 7 years. I wanted to move back to the suburbs, so changed to agency work as a tech and left the city. I was also interested in MRI, so enrolled in a 1 year certificate program at a college in Chicago with clinical work at Loyola University. When I finished, I stayed on as an employee for several years before moving back to the suburbs at a different hospital.

The great recession of 2008 was a deal breaker for me. No details, but I had to leave the clinical world. I stayed in the healthcare field, but at a desk job that allowed me to use all the knowledge I had accumulated from the previous 20 years. In 2018, I decided it was finally time to retire, and I haven't looked back.

Age 14 I babysat two adorable little Greek girls.  Their mother had been a "mail order bride" so to speak.  She would leave WONDERFUL casseroles.  The little girls would say "open and close the light" not turn on/off!Smiley Happy

Age 15-18    I started working behind the counter at an inexpensive shoe store down town.  On Saturdays.

Had lots of fun, the weekend wasn't happy with an acidic step mother.

I spent what I earned on Lady Bug and Villager A line skirts, sweaters, and blouses.

Age 19    In college I worked for Wachovia Bank Operations Department, bought out now by Wells Fargo.  I worked every summer and Christmas vacation from school.

Age 24     I taught my area in Ellijay, Georgia.  We were in the mountains!  No McDonalds or even Hardies!  All we had was a Bantum Chef.  I never went, of course all I did was write lesson plans.

Age 25    Came home, got married, moved to a little town outside of Charlotte, NC.  The first year I worked for Sacred Hear College.  Loved the Sisters.  I had gone to St. Genevivie's  in elementary school.

Age 26   Built my first house, Taught in junior high for 4 years and was a teller for Security Bank in the summers.

Age 30  I was able to get a high school position.   DH got transferred here at the same time.  Pregnant with our first son, we moved back home where child rearing was easier and much safer.  Also, DH could cave and camp.

I also redesigned our house and built it in the mountains with big windows to bring the outside in and a wrap around porch.

Our younger son came 4 years after we moved in.

I was at the same school until I retired having taught 37 years.  Summers were spent driving to swimming lessons!!!
