Years ago I served a glass of wine to a friend, few minutes later it exploded/broke scared us to death. Always wondered why that happened.

This summer I bought a set of 4 widemouth short glasses at Homegoods. The glass set was from Italy and clearance priced.
washed them in the dishwasher and put them in the cabinet. Three of them broke after DH used them and as I emptied the dishwasher found the cracks. One actually broke in my hand.
Of course I didn’t have the original box and the receipt had been incorrectly coded by the cashier. Took all the glasses back with the clearance receipt.....what a hassle for $6 !!!!
Long story short, neither the cashier nor her boss would credit my TJ MAxx credit card: left the cracked glasses and the broken one on the counter and left.
Called TJM headquarters and explained what had transpired....refused any credit and canceled my card with them.

I also had that happen after I took a cake out of the oven.. I was using Pyrex pan and the thing shattered in a million pieces... luckily nobody was hurt, but it does happen... just to be aware..

I've read that some candles are doing it, too - I forget whether Yankee Candle or Bath & Body Works.

These stories are scary! I want to be more careful and aware these things can happen.

I have no idea what would have caused this, except like another posted noted "made in china".
I'm glad you weren't hurt. That could have been real bad if it had hit you in the eye. Goodness.

I also had a large casserole dish break down the middle as I took it out of the oven. I was so surprised. It was Pyrex.
My husband has visited the Corning plant in Corning, NY He said every once in awhile a dish will shatter that was just sitting on a shelf.
When you think of what glass goes through just to be made. It makes me glad that is doesn't happen more often. Glad you are alright.
