@Shanus    This year for the first time, I had new lens made in the optical shop at my optometrist's office, much more expensive than the cheapie places i usually go.

I couldn't read with the progressive lenses.  Had a recheck eye exam and the lenses were remade.  They're better but I still don't read well with the new ones.  I gave up and continue to use my cheapie readers from Readers.com.

I never once had any trouble with my glasses from cheap optical shops.

What a day yesterday! First thing in the morning, I picked up my new glasses with new RX lenses. I waited until the afternoon, but couldn't see correctly, in fact I was dizzy, nausous and had difficulty driving and reading.

I called and went back in the afternoon to the opticalshop, also in the office, to have her check the glasses to the RX to be sure it was correct. She told me I had "old eyes" and it may take two weeks to adjust. In her opinion, the lenses were made correctly. She gave me a song and dance about a different material used for the lenses, larger frames, etc. None of it made sense to me. What?!?!?

After my eyes were dilated with the yellow drops and checked, the tech, as always, did my check for a new RX in the opthamologisy's office. Then I met with the doc to check behind my eyes, eye health, etc. I was not aware he also would do the eye glass changes needed himself if asked.

In the afternoon, I had prepared 2 cakes for t'giving to go in the freezer and both came out wrong...could not read the recipe and left out the pudding.

Last night I changed back to my other glasses and made an appointment when they opened this morning to have the doc check this for me.

The tech (a different one) gave me the wrong RX last year and the same thing happened. Yes, it's on me. A tech should not have this costly job and I should have gone to a more experienced optometrist . That's what I did last year to get the correct glasses made after the tech made a mistake. BTW, the same issue happened w/ DH who goes to the same office.

So, a busy aggravating day that included grocery shopping for t'giving, laundry, emails, getting my thanksgiving cards in the mail...all done not seeing well.

Has anyone else experienced this with an office tech? Given the wrong RX for new glasses, etc.?

@Shanus

Yes.

I haven't been given the wrong prescription but I have had to get new glasses adjusted because of the progressives.

The last time I had my eyes checked this past summer I didn't need to get the drops and have my eyes dilated.  The doctor now has a new machine that can look into the eyes without dilating  them...so nice when you're no longer blinded for the rest of the afternoon!

After my original doctor retired I tried a new independent doctor.  Original appointment went fine but when I picked up the glasses it was obvious the prescription was wrong.  "Just take them home and work with them," I was told.  That came from the son of the doctor, who was pinch hitting that day.  No idea what his qualifications were.  I do remember him playing footsie with the receptionist.  Literally, I'm not kidding.  Anyway, this fiasco was eventually resolved with the correct prescription, details are fuzzy now.  But obviously I switched providers.

@Shanus  How frustrating!  Does ANYONE know or care what they're doing anymore?  My son in law got his new glasses and when he couldn't see properly and had headaches from them he was told "well, that's the right prescription." And of course it wasn't They argued with him. Ridiculous.

Wow, how unprofessional and disrespectful to the customer.

yes, several years ago I went to a chain glasses place and had my eye exam and went back to get my glasses.

I tried for days to get use to them and could not. They do give you the spiel about oh it could take some time yada yada.

I took the glasses back and asked for a refund. They went to check my script and guess what - it was written wrong!

Of course after spending over 300 they offered me a new exam and I said no thanks, give me the refund. which they did. I think they even said the exam would cost me.

I am still wearing my old glasses since I don't have the funds anymore to get new ones.

Has anyone tried Warby Parker ?

There are a lot of commercial about them.  My neighbor swears by them.  She is picky-picky-picky.

@Shanus   Ihave been going to the same Ophthalmologist for some 25 years. Never has a technician ever done my eye exam.
