@Shanus Several places we like are 20 minutes away, so we've stopped heading off whenever we feel like it.

@We rescue cats     I showed my husband this and he said it looks like someone's rendering of a 1959 Chevrolet.

I wonder what Dad would make of all this if he were still here?

Was he around in 2022 when gas was a dollar more than it is now?

Also, Feb 2009, it was as high as it is now because one of my kids were being married and we had family and friends driving from quite a ways.

Back in 2022 I changed my driving habits. I was still working so I combined most of my stops with my drive home. I've kept the same habit, now that I'm home. I'd love to walk or ride my bike to Target, TJ Maxx or Home Goods; all are less than a mile from me.  Traffic and the number of bad drivers out there make it too dangerous.

i remember the first time i saw gas go to $1.00 a gallon...maybe 1977?  I thought I would never be able to afford a car.

@Blondie59

   I remember gas being 36 cents a gallon when I began to drive .

" This  1972 was the final year of relative price stability before the 1973 OPEC oil embargo, which caused prices to rise significantly by 1974. "

 Gas reached abt $1.00 gallon  between 1979-1980 .

My VW  was so economical on gas. I used to just grab some change out of my purse and I could drive all over  Washington, Dc metro area from where I lived in the country.  Wish I had kept that car .

I've always been mindful of fuel efficiency and gas prices. that was Iran too... remember the odd-even days and the lines in 1979. we had a GMC pickup, gallons to the mile.  then later on it needed a valve job and my ex took out the engine and it was in pieces in the driveway. but he fixed it!

The average US price of gas in February of 2009 was $1.92 -$1.97 a gallon.

I buy my gas from a family owned station so I haven't altered my driving. I wouldn't want them to be impacted. It's not their fault.

@occasionalrain   We do as well.  Whatever the price we just pay it, their family has owned the station   for 80 years I think.  when I came to town they always cashed my check for gas.before ATM's. I don't think their prices are anymore than anyone else.
