Do you have stone crabs in your area for sale and if so do you buy them?
I saw an ad for some recently, of course here in Denver we need to have them shipped to us.
Have had them a few times and they were delicious! Not to mentioned the beautiful shells. Really thinking of ordering some ![]()

I live in Florida and Stone Crab Claws are my favorite kind of crab. Season in Florida is October 15 thru May 1st so there is only 2 more weeks available. Come to think of it, these are frozen so Season probably doesnt matter unless buying really late like September.
If I could afford them I would purchase them. Price depending on size ranges $ 35/lb to $70/lb.
I probably havent had them in 40 years come to think of gosh.
So delicious just with butter and lemon. Yum. One year Mom bought them as part of our Christmas meal along with Prime Rib ( she managed a seafood restaurant and had sources, brother was a butcher ). I was around 18 and worked at Walgreens. I had to work that Christmas. My mom put away some claws for me so that my five older brothers wouldnt eat them all. After coming home at around 630pm, I literally stood over the garbage can, loosening the claw, squeezing lemon, and dipping in butter.
My mouth is watering as I type this! 🤪

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE stone crab claws. I normally only eat them a few times a year. Whenever I see them, I buy them.
I love all types of seafood and any type of crabs are high on my list.

no we don't have stone crabs as a rule. The Bay Area, and California coast is known for Dungenous and Rock crabs. Our crabs are wonderful, and actually quite reasonable when in season

I'm going to Alaska next month and that's one of the things I'm hoping we get to eat!

I grew up in the Bay Area and we'd meet the boats coming in at Half Moon Bay and buy the dungeness crab right off the boats. Did that in Monterey too.
Loved them but those stone crabs are something else!

One of my friends is an off-shore oil rig helicopter pilot and he flies in the Gulf of Mexico. When he's not working he lives in Colorado, near me, and on occasion he will bring in a haul of blue crabs packed on ice. They are really tasty.
