There's a Google map that shows "sneakers" is googled more than "tennis shoes" nationwide.
If you look at the map posted earlier, deep, deep, deep red is highly regional. Many of the "red" areas are light or pinkish.
Google showed only 1 State where "Tennis Shoes" prevailed:Mississippi.
Interesting. I wonder why this is?

Checkin' in from Philadelphia. Sneakers 100 percent. Sometimes just sneaks. When I was a kid, I remember hearing from someone somewhere the word tennis shoes and for a long time I honestly thought that tennis shoes were shoes specifically worn while playing tennis.

My parents are southerners = tennis shoes
Siblings & I grew up in the northeast = sneakers & bo-bos.

@Mz iMac I remember out in California people called them tennis shoes too. But, I love the term Bo Bo's, that's cute! I'd never heard it before.❤️
