Easy solution. They need to put up some kind of net/ guard to catch the balls before they hit the fence. Not really very expensive-

@BunSnoop Have you pointed out to your neighbor that the best place for his son and friends to play this sport is the school field or a large park? It seems to me this is the way to avoid the problem all together.

Vinyl fences are insanely expensive so I'm guessing that's not an option to just replace it. I understand what you are saying but it is obvious that talking to the neighbor is not working. I know it is expensive to change the fence but it might save a lot of stress in the long run.

Yeah, I get it, I really do, but personally, I paid over $10,000.00 to have my fence installed and I could not/would not be willing to replace any of it to appease the neighbor. It's a matter of principle..they are at fault and have the ability to solve the problem. If it was a one-time deal I would definitely be more understanding but strike 3 and you're out. Drive the kids to the school football field to play lacrosse or another "appropriate" area for this type of activity.

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and now having to deal with these neighbors. When I moved into my development, mainly retired people were building here and it was very nice, neat, and quiet. That was 32 years ago so things have drastically changed as people passed or moved into senior housing. Now, we are getting younger couples with kids and yards are not maintained. Cars, campers, trucks are in the driveways because the garages are full of stuff. The kids are poorly supervised, dogs run around unleashed, and people are unfriendly. It is very sad to see the changes. I wish you well.

@Group 5 minus 1 I think it comes down to someone calling him other than her to put the fear in him. Insurance company could say they are going to stop it by law if they have to; attorney could say it can't be tolerated but want to not have to take any action. It's not her fault, not her issue to fix, but somebody in a position to do something for her needs to weigh in.

Insurance company is likely because they have lawyers and can sue the pants off someone. So I think the hint of than from them might do the trick. They can just say it's in their interest. . . blah blah blah.

@RespectLife That may be true in your State. In New Jersey it IS a crime. It is called criminal mischief which covers crimes of property destruction in New Jersey. When someone is charged with defacing or destroying property, they might face legal fines, criminal charges, jail time, and a permanent record.

I am very sorry for your loss. I am sure you are having a hard time and are depressed. When I loss the love of my life. I was told not to make any decisions I didn't need to at that time. Your neighbor gave you money to fix your fence and will give you more money to fix the fence and will deal with his children. I know it is really upsetting. But it is a fence. Alienating your neighbor is never a good idea. Especially now. You never know if in an emergency you will need help or a man who is just stronger than you. Someone near by who could help you and he has already offered to help you if you are in need. A good neighbor is a gift. A fence is a fence. Again I am sorry.

You would have to prove intent....being lousy at Lacrosse is NOT a criminal offensive.

Criminal mischief is more so vandalism. These kids are NOT vandalizing.

If a kid misses a fast pitch and there goes your window...that is not criminal mischief.

If someone runs up to your house and heaves a BIG rock through your window....that IS criminal mischief.

We are talking apples and oranges here.

Assumptions are made that this poor OP can just direct the neighbors they MUST do this or that.....it is NOT that easy unfortunately.

I think Asking for them to put up a net is a great idea!

Why should @BunSnoop be the one to do something about her fence. She loves her fence. The neighbor pairs for the repair and the person fixing the fence does a terrific job.

Someone mentioned that the neighbor should get a net. We hy can't he think of something like that? Maybe he prefers to keep paying.

All @BunSnoop has to do is continue taking pictures and make sure he sees the holes before the repair is dpne and keep the repair guy on speed dial.
