@Imaoldhippie I am so sorry to hear about your injury- that must've been really scary for you to go through! I'm glad that you are in good hands with your husband and your medical team. I've broken 8 bones in my life from being a dare devil tomboy as a kid- each one hurt a lot. If you're going to be in a cast for a while, I checked online and there are reusable waterproof leg cast covers on Amazon dot com that are reasonably priced. All the best to you and I'm so sorry this happened to you! 🙏💗

@Bonkers1 I had a fall yesterday! We were out doing errands and stopped at the butcher shop as DH wanted to cook a nice steak for dinner. He literally said to me......."be careful of the ice patch on your side of the car" Well wouldn't you know I put my foot right on it and went flying landing on my hip. Jeez, I'm fine, just a bit sore today. Thank goodness it was freezing out as I had 2 pairs of pants on and my big thick wool coat. I believe the padding saved me so I am not complaining about winter anymore......
just don't want to go out in it!
Hope you feel better and @Imaoldhippie , sorry for your fall. Take good care and give yourself time to recover.

@Imaoldhippie It sucks those slippery patches seek us out. Hoping your Ortho MD can help you to a fast recovery.

@Imaoldhippie I hope that you heal quickly! This golden age is nothing but rust! Please take good care, DH and I wear the ice grippers when we go out to feed the birds. Take good care!

@Imaoldhippie I am so sorry to hear you fell and got hurt. I can relate. I have fallen on the ice too many times to count. It's not fun.
That is another reason I am not fond of winter. I willl be happy when it's gone.
Take care of yourself. Thankfully, you didn't injure your head.

@Imaoldhippie : So sorry to read this. I know it is very painful and relieved your DH was with you.
I purchased the full shower chair and not bench from Amazon. Few more dollars than drug store but it has a special protective coating to keep it from getting really dirty and easier to clean, I know from experience. The chair makes it easier to reach and use the shower wand. I feel more safe using the chair.
Praying for your speedy recovery.

In our supermarket parking lot..they plow the parking spots but there is always snow and ice in the handicap spots..I suppose after the plow has gone by..it's still snowing and those parking spots get quite a bit of snow again..We have a handicap parking tag..Told DH never park in those spots in winter weather..
Oh and don't forget to wear sunglasses..DH walked down the driveway for the mail..he never listens when I say sunglasses!..Yesterday..he walked back into the garage and couldn't see (snow blind) and he fell..so glad he wasn't hurt.

I'm so sorry to hear of your painful injury! It's going to be tough but you will get through this. By spring this hopefully will be a memory.
May I suggest getting a pair of ice cleats? I have them myself and it is almost impossible to fall on ice with them. They go over your shoes or boots and I got my first pair of "YakTraxks" here from the Q years ago. They sell something similar on Amazon.
I got a pair for my brother who never used them before but he moved to my area recently and takes his dog out for walks every day starting at 5am in icy weather! I told him that I didn't want to hear that he had fallen and injured himself....hopefully he uses them whenever it's cold & icy out.
In the future if you get them put them on before stepping outside and sprinkle salt which helps a lot.

I remember hearing someone say years ago ''If you want to live to an old age, don't fall !''
I fell 5 years ago and still have pain to this day after 2 surgeries..long story. I've heard of several friends talking recently about falling on the ice and having broken ribs, etc. I'm in my 70's and there is nothing at all that I need bad enough to go out in the ice and snow that can't wait - falling ailments tend to never leave ..sorry.
