Husband gone fishing for week, fridge dies

My husband and son went to the UP of Michigan fishing for the week.  The day after they leave the fridge goes.  It's still working but repairman said its the compressor and start shopping.  There is a funny chemical smell in it that alerted me.  I ordered a new one to be here 7/9. Grabbed what I could get so many marked "back ordered". It's a Whirlpool top freezer stainless. Ordered it online, hope I like it.  Wanted bottom freezer but no go. I hope I measured right.

You are lucky to get one. I think appliances are on backlog at most places. Good for for taking immediate action.

Good luck with getting your new fridge.  I ordered a new 26.8 cu ft. KitchenAid French door fridge on Oct. 19th, 2020 & it was finally delivered this past Monday!  The delivery date kept getting pushed due to the pandemic.

Our fridge died completely a few months ago so we were living out of coolers for a few days. Went to Lowe’s and happened to pick a model that was in stock and delivered the next day. Sending some of our luck your way 🙂.

@MoJoVThe delivery date on my original invoice was Oct. 25th, then it got pushed to Nov. something, then Dec. & so on.  My salesman (I bought it from a locally owned appliance co.) was great about keeping me informed & calling KitchenAid corporate & the KA regional reps to find out when it would be here.

I read an article awhile back that said during the height of the pandemic back in Spring/Summer of last year there was a 6 week period where there was zero steel being manufactured anywhere in Asia & that put everything down the supply chain behind the eight-ball.

ETA: I thought my 19 year old Maytag dryer was dying & had visions of it taking months to get a new one, so I went shopping (same local appliance co & salesman as the KA appliances) & bought a new GE top loader washer & matching gas dryer set & they actually had both in stock in their warehouse.  I bought them on 5/30/21 & they were delivered on 6/7/21 so not everything is backed up!

@LizzieInSRQI was grateful that I was just changing from bisque color appliances to stainless steel & my old GE Profile French door fridge was still functioning.  My over the range microwave died & dishwasher was acting up, which set the whole switch-over into motion.

Re: Husband gone fishing for week, fridge dies

Since Pandemic began we have replaced a refrigerator, purchased an upright freezer and replaced our old water heater with a 50 gallon version.  Our criteria has been: is it in stock and is it made in America so that we can get spare parts if anything needs repair.  We've been extremely lucky and not had to wait for any item but we also didn't wait until our older appliances were completely nonfunctional.

Wishing you the best.  I was walking around Home Depot one day last week, just waiting on my car repairs next door.  I opened every fridge and the sales people told me they do not sell floor models and nothing currently at this particular store was in stock and delivery would take months.

Wishing you the best.
