Got a huge surprise from my 30 year home insurance company (only 1 claim in 30 years!). Farmers seems to be abandoning CA because of the fires. Got a rude letter (with pics of my house that I was not aware they took) from them and told they were 're-evaluating" all their CA policies and mine was not going to be renewed. So they gladly took my money for 30+ years but now wanna scram. Horrible CS FARMERS!!!!! Anyone else have Farmers and did they drop you too because of where you live? Is this even legal?

@silkyk    We have always had Farmers and live in WA. State.  I would guess that Farmers Insurance  has  the ability to drop anyone they want to PRIOR to a catastropy....but that really is disheartening to hear they did that to you...

. Here in Washington State we have fires too and the Big threat of earthquakes.  I am fortunate to be grandfathered in on earthquake insurance as we bought it about 30 years ago .... but they no longer sell it  now, and it is really hard to find earth quake insurance at all  here to purchase anymore.  I can not imagine what will happen when THE BIG ONE hits here and most homeowners will have no earthquake insurance to rebuild...

i agree with those that said to use an insurance broker. they can do a lot of comparisons for you and get you the best deals and best coverage.

we have a broker and use them for our cars, home, and umbrella coverage. we were with nationwide and switched over to ERIE and they have been GREAT!  for floods we can only use national flood insurance/fema.
