I had some time to kill and went to Hobby Lobby. I picked out 3 items and took them to the register. As usual there was only one register open and about a dozen people in line. Easily a 30 minute wait. I don't know about other Hobby Lobby's but this one is super slow. Finally another register opened up. No one in line moved over so I figured why not. I was stopped by the Hobby Lobby patrol and was told I couldn't do that and she would choose who could go in the newly opened line and to go to the end of the original line. I just looked at her and handed her my three items and left. Went next door to Home Goods and got cuter stuff. Probably the last time I shop there.

I did but I'm sure I'll never get a reply but it's worth the shot.

The stores that had the best yarns was Joanne's. Unfortunately they no longer exist. I have gone to Hobby Lobby and the variety of yarns leave a lot to be desired.

I've always understood that there is an unwritten but known etiquette rule that if a new register opens, it's the polite thing to do to let the ones in front that have been waiting the longest go first.
Maybe some didn't realize at first it was open.
That said, the employees there did sound kind of aggressive.
The way to do it for the stores that do is to let the cashier state loudly that they will take the next person in line and signal that person.
I really appreciate when a store does this. It prevents any in the back of the line from rushing in to the new register.
If there is someone ahead of me in line and a new register opens I always ask them if they'd like to go ahead and let them know that register is open if they are not aware. A lot of people do this now.
There are still many though who don't.
Not saying you did @Meowingkitty
It seems the store was wrong in not making everyone aware this was their policy by having the cashier organize it by saying it as soon as they opened. They shouldn't have embarrassed a customer.

I still don't understand why this store has never updated their POS system and let the cashiers type in everything into the register like it is 1975.

wow, that is really rude. She could have worded that an entirely different way. Please call manager, stores need to know these things how can they correct? If they don't care, you shouldn't shop there anyway

The people in line knew a new register opened up. Why no one moved over I don't know. I would have let those in front of me go first since they probably have been waiting forever for the line to move. But since no one was interested in moving over I figured ok, I'll go. That's when this self proclaimed line clerk (I have other words for her but I'm sure they aren't allowed here) decided to take people at random in line to move over. She didn't even take the next in line, just random people. I wrote corporate but I doubt they'll answer. Oh well, there's a Michael's across the street.
