@ID2. Uh oh, you will be told you are wrong and don't know what you are talking about! I have family in ski country and that is the way it works up there but I have been told on these boards that it doesn't work that way and I am wrong. LOL. I stay away from the poster now.

I did not know the woman; I do not know her family. I can't even guess about the reasons for that. But they are your friends, you must know or suspect something. If she was a good friend, you know the backstory.

Thank you for the responces! I went back today, did some weeding and put fresh yellow tulips on her grave.I found out some things that were upsetting so I will let it rest. Bottom line, the family has been busy...yeah okay...they live five blocks away....

Maybe they dont have the money yet and they will get headstone at a later time. They are very expensive.

You have to wait a period of time before ordering/placing a headstone. In the ground, under the stone, they have to place a concrete base for it to sit on, and to do that requires certain weather conditions. It can't be frozen or wet. It has been winter. Also the ground has to settle so the footer doesn't sink. All in good & proper time.

Around here, the clean up of the leftover flowers from the funeral is done by the cemetery staff. And in this climate, if the winter was hard, the fact that they (the cemetery) haven't leveled the grave wouldn't be unusual, as they will wait till the ground thaws fully in the spring and some settleing has occurred.
IT could be as simple as this particular cemetery just isn't very on the ball, or waiting out the winter season.

My first husband died on Feb 14,1979. The weather was colder than normal and the ground was too frozen to dig the grave so he and many others were held until the weather was more compatible.I don't know what they do now,but that was what they did in 1979.He was buried near the end of March.

They are THE wealthiest family in town...it's okay...I will visit often and keep it clean

I mean no offense in my comments here. I never visit my in-laws’ graves, nor my nephew’s and they are located only 3 or 4 miles from my house.
We remember these people often in stories and pictures. We think of them fondly and repeat their favorite jokes and anecdotes. These things uplift me when I think of them.
I have no idea if there are dead flowers at their grave sites or if the grass needs to be mowed. It never dawned on me that others might find this offensive. I only say this because maybe other folks feel as I do.

@Kalli....I also live with in a few miles of the graves of my parents and grandparents. I have been to the grave site less than 5 times since the last death. VIsiting the cemetery is not something I want to do...I remember my loved ones in the memories left behind.
I also know other families that decorate and visit often the graves of their loved ones.....we are all different.
