I think gloves, scarf, tote bag with chap sticks or inexpensive scarf or gloves, something that is not to display or decorate with, or the usual "didn't know what to get" gifts like candles.
People have allergies sometimes so gloves, scarf or tote would get around that. Maybe a tin of small things--hand lotion etc. Burt's bees have some nice ones.

Until you learn more about her, give her a container of those peppermint candies. If she doesn't like them or can't eat them, she can give them away. Therefore, open the discussion about things she likes. There's time. Next year, if she's still there, you'll know a little better, hopefully.

Call it a "welcome gift" then.

@panda1234 If it was me, I'd give a nice Christmas decoration. I would not give anything with a "scent" since I've read too many replies on this board from women saying they have had horrible reactions to scents even a light one. You could do a set of cute Christmas mugs, a pretty light up decoration, a snowglobe etc. I would avoid any type of lotions, bath items etc. Put the decoration in a pretty gift bag and call it a day. No need to sweat it. There are some really cute and pretty decorations out there. Including candy dishes, glasses, mugs, but since people can have sensitivities I'd avoid anything "skin" oriented.

Buy her a candle. Avoid lotions, perfume, soaps since people can be sensitive to those.
Be glad you have somewhere to go. This will be my first Christmas alone.

I'm so glad the adults in my family decided long ago no more gift giving.

Do you have a World Market store nearby? i flew to the west coast last Holidays and had never met my son's inlaws before they came for Xmas to my son and DIL's house last year. i gave a nice resuable Holiday gift bag from World Market, some pretty forest-scented birch and pine soap bars, tins of mints and a bottle of white wine.
they did not gift me but thats OK i had fun shopping for the gifts! World Market has so many gift ideas!

Yes. You should have a small gift for her. It doesn't matter what you give give her, it's the warmth and generosity that gift signifies. It's winter. A pair of gloves would be nice.

@pupwhipped funny my mom said the same thing.
