@Marp ...probably similar to what our dog does...when she lays on the cushions which make up the back the feathers get smushed down....we have the same problem I posted up thread. Our dog weighs about 17 lbs and walks across the top multiple times a day....we just live with it.

Put the dog somewhere else while you're away where things can't get accessed or ruined.

I don't like it but I let them enjoy the sofa. I have two sofas in our great room.
Can't stop it, got tired of putting pillows all over.
I just vacuum and have towels or blankets down.
A dog's life is short, a few years back we lost a dog at only 5 years.
Would do anything for my pets, adore them.
Edited to add, I'll eventually get new furniture, sofas wear out from people too.

I lost my dog this past June and I would give anything to have her jump on my couch or be laying at my feet.
@PAlady So sorry for the loss of your dog. I completely agree with you too.
Some people, not OP, are like drill sergeants and that is sad.

Can you move the sofa away from the window and replace it with "dog steps" that it can use to reach his bed placed up against the window ?

If I was rich then I would just buy a big house and a couch for each dog.😍

@threecees. If that's the saddest thing you encounter, you're in good shape indeed. You see, some people are in charge of their homes and are smarter than their dogs. Some aren't.

When it is time to say your goodbyes to your 4 leg babies, you will wish you had not worried about your sofa. Just cover it ,and let them enjoy .

You are going to start something with me. Get lost.

Well, obviously, this is a very touchy subject. My dogs have always been allowed on our furniture and beds, but I can understand and respect the opinions of those who don't feel the same way.
I have leather furniture so there really is no problem. Pet hair doesn't stick to it and the cushions are attached so they don't get moved or crumpled up. Now granted, I'm always finding the throw pillows on the floor, but I can deal with that.
I would just do as others have suggested and either buy a specially made sofa cover or put an old blanket down. I'm sure if you checked with a trainer or even on line, you could get instructions on how to re-direct your dogs behavior.
