I would not shock a dog from getting on a sofa.

Just a thought, maybe with his bed so close to the couch, he thinks it's an extention part. Can you move his bed and put chairs/border in front of couch till he gets the message?

@qvc chick, it would be helpful if you explained exactly how he is ruining your sofa. It could give insight into why he recently started getting on it.

It's called a shock mat b/c it uses a battery to make it work. It makes static electricity. The 'shock' isn't like sticking your finger in a socket. It's like sitting on pins and needles. Nothing harmful or cruel.

QVC sells couch covers - they're thick and washable.
Imho, let your dog enjoy! There will come a day when you wish your pup was still around and you'll get comfort remembering all the little things your pup did.

I have two grand pups that stay with me from time to time, I do not allow them to go on my bed, which they respect when I'm at home , but many times when I have been out I come home knowing they were on the bed, by the appearance of my bed, when they hear me coming they jump off, but I always say " who's been on my bed " they then give me a look of shame..ha .. I guess it's that saying when the cat is away the mouse will play, I'm okay with this.

Get a sofa cover and rewash and replace on sofas. Our pets only live so long . Love and cherish them . You dog is telling you something .

Didn't you have an electric fence around the property you had? That's shock training, too.

Throw a blanket on the sofa, they are only with you for a short time. Let them enjoy themselves.
I lost my dog this past June and I would give anything to have her jump on my couch or be laying at my feet.

I feel your pain, our dog does the same, she likes to look out the window...I don't like that it is hard on the sofa back pillows. I have three individual 'pillows' that make up the back, I just have to readjust everyday.
She enjoys it to much to change that habit now.
