Do people still send out high school graduation announcements? My grandson will be graduating next month and he does not want a party. I suggested to my daughter that they send out announcements letting family and friends know he is graduating and where he will be going to college.
She said no, that isn't done anymore. And, it would look like they were looking for gifts. If they had a party people would give him gifts so what's the difference? Anyway, what are your thoughts on announcements?

I thought in getting an announcement, that that was your ticket to being invited to the graduation ceremonies. I could be wrong. It's been ages. If parents wanted a party, they let everyone know. We usually had it in tent covers outside to accommodate everyone. Food was under the canopy, if you did a card with money in it, it was a gift handed to the graduate. No box to just slide it into. You got to tell the graduate "good job".

I was thinking about announcements recently also. I have 2 grandkids graduating from high school and one from college. When I mentioned announcements they had no idea what I was talking about. I told them how there used to be formal announcements with a little card inserted with the name of the graduate. They just kind of smiled as they frequently do when I mention 'olden times'!

We just received a college graduation announcement yesterday. My husband and I were debating if a gift should be sent. I said yes and he said no. Would live to hear some opinions. The graduate is the fiance of my husband's godson.

@qualitygal At many large suburban high schools one needs a ticket from the school to get into the graduation ceremonies. If held indoors due to the weather one only gets two tickets...for the parents due to the lack of space. Even outdoors one can't invite as many as they wish.

When my kids graduated around 15 years ago no one I knew did announcements. I had a party for my daughter but my son insisted on NO party! So we took him out to a nice dinner with just the immediate family.

When I graduated from HS we had announcements. I don't think they do that anymore. Things were much more formal back then and now everything is casual.

Its reaching a little far but I would send a cash gift of 25 to 50 dollars.
