I couldn't wait to retire so I could pursue my hobbies which are music and art. I'm so busy at home and enjoy being home that I have to force myself to go out to get some exercise and fresh air. I know quite a few people from my former work place who were afraid to retire so kept working longer.

We will work until we are no longer able to or until business is so slow we can't keep our door open.
I always am intrigued when people younger than me and DH can't wait to retire..I always ask, how are you going to fill all those hours every day?
We have saved well and can afford to not work but we don't want to NOT WORK, and you still cannot shop, eat out, etc. every day.
I am medically retired - I WARNED everyone I know - PLAN what you are going to do before you retire. I have girlfriends that retired and now they are tired of shopping, weekly breakfast or lunch get-togethers, gardening, so NOW they are looking for Volunteer hours at Hospitals, Schools, ect.
Right now they are leary of returning to the YMCA (or gym) for exercise so I told them to start walking.
I got sick years ago and am in a situation where the mind wants to go but the body says NO.

I'm retired. DH is too, but he's self-employed so technically he'll always work. But the business runs itself. He steps in once in a while.
I can be a home body during the winter or when I need a day to myself, but when the weather's nice, I enjoy trailriding with my friends. DH likes to play tennis and golf. He's more social than I am so he'll go for short motorcycle rides or take a ride to the local mall. Sometimes I go with him, sometimes not.
Ever since I retired I helped my parents. First, my dad needed help keeping Mom at home with him but when her dementia got really bad, she had to go into a nursing home. He got lonely and went in to be with her. My sis and I were busy keeping him mentally stimulated, taking him places several times a week, bringing him books to read, taking him to all his med appts., etc. Mom passed first. Then it was even more important to visit him and take him out even if only for short excursions. Since he passed in July I have more time to myself. That has been more of an adjustment than retiring from my job.
