I use the Messenger app and on the left where it lists the chats/conversations I can just slide the chat to the left and it's gone. Like deleting a text or email in their respective apps.

On my phone I just put my finger on the chat for a few seconds and an option comes up to delete it.

The instructions did not work for me...everytime I long hold a chat...the archive messages pop up....which I cannot get rid of either!

I tried to update my app and could not do that either...

Electronics is not my 'thing'...maybe I can find a friend who know more than I do and have them delete them for me...but I really do like to try and learn.

In messanger, I just click on the chat I want to delete and then swipe left and it gives me the option to delete it.

It just wasn't at the top of my to do list.  I ck my FB page from my cell phone mainly to look at posts from Family and friends and when I get a messenger post I read it, answer if it's family or important and move on. I just never thought about deleting msgs that much until I read this post and said to myself, Self ! you also need to delete messages !

Are you using the messenger app or messenger on the FB website?  How you delete or archive (different things) is done differently on each.  I sold a ton of Temp-tations and Pioneer Woman this last week, and my message list is empty except for a pending sale.

@Mom2Dogs I sell a lot on FB Marketplace and find the FB website to be much easier to manage my sales.  Here are some screen shots of what to do.  Make sure you're on your home page.  If not, click on the blue house at the top I've circled in red.  Then click Messenger.



From there, click on Marketplace.



Then hover over whatever chat you want to delect or archive, and click on the three dots that show up.  A menu will pop up that will give you the option to delete or archive.  HTH!
