There have been many articles written about why paying by check is not nearly as safe as it used to be.

You can Google and find information on Forbes, Yahoo Finance,  LA Times Business,  Fortune, etc.

Basically ...

Check fraud is on the rise.

You give your banking information to everyone you write a check to.

Checkbook Risks: Why You Shouldn’t Write Checks Anymore

Checks Can Reveal Too Much Information

For the most part, people who write a physical check and give it to a recipient — like a contractor or their landlord — are trusting this individual with the payment amount and personal information printed on the check. What many often do not consider is how much confidential information is also on there.

“Every check they’ve ever written has their checking account number and their financial institution’s routing number out in the open for anyone to see,” said Christensen.

@Carmie I pay my bills online through my bank's Bill Pay option. I am never charged a fee. I know some sites charge if you go through their website, but not my bank.

We found out last night the same thing happened to my hubby's debit card. We use it to pay for many things, its going to be so much fun changing all the numbers

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

Posters have been warned over and over and over about using debit for purchases.

Apparently, to no avail.   One can't help the unhelpable.
