Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Hello my friends!  Today my hands seem a bit better, and I put them to use in scrubbing our garden potatoes, that are left, and I'm cooking some with chicken for supper, using my dear sister's recipe for salad dressing chicken.  Mixing some salt and pepper, onion salt or onion flakes, paprika and some poultry seasoning with the salad dressing, brush it on the chicken, and coat it with crushed corn flakes.  It's in the oven now and I'm sure it'll be good.  I've made it before but a long time ago.  It's different here being my dear husband cannot grill anymore, he misses that.  But it's a blessing that I can do this, and also a blessing that I can still call my sister who's 93 and get ideas from her yet.  Wishing you all a  positive evening.

Never tell yourself that it is "I" who has done all of this for me.
Lord, I pray and give thanks because it is You who has given me
the abilities and talents that I have to do all that I do.

"And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of
these is love."  ~1 Corinthians 13:13

Love is the power that transforms our lives.  We can try to love our
families and friends and then try to love everybody that we possibly
can, even the "sinners and publicans"--everybody.  Love for God is an even
greater thing.  It is the result of gratitude to God and it is the
acknowledgement of the blessings that God has sent us.  Love for God
acknowledges God's gifts and leaves the way open for God to shower yet
more blessings on our thankful hearts.  We can say: "Thank you, God," until
it becomes a habit.

I pray that I may try to love God and all people.  I pray that I may
continually thank God for all the blessings I receive.

Advent Day 4 - God's Way of Being

We know something about the cosmos as a whole that our ancient brothers and sisters didn’t, namely that it is subject to collapse. Ancient peoples thought that the sun and moon were forever; we know that they’re not. Aristotle and Plato thought that nature or matter have always existed and would always exist; we know they came into being at the Big Bang and will go out of being at the Great Crunch. Everything in the cosmos passes—and indeed the cosmos itself passes.

Now attend to this line in Mark's Gospel: “After that, men will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with great power and glory” (Mk 13:26). Jesus is hearkening back to the great prophecy in the seventh chapter of the prophet Daniel. The prophet speaks there of “one like a Son of Man” who will “come on a cloud” and deliver Israel after a long period of oppression.

Well, this is precisely how the first Christians appreciated Jesus. He was not just one more prophet or teacher. He was the very incarnation of God’s eternal wisdom, God’s love, God’s way of being. And this meant that he was their link to that eternal power that runs through all things, that suffuses all things, that transcends all things, that power which endures even when the plants and planets and the earth itself fade away, that lasts even after our bodies have come and gone.

The whole point of this apocalyptic discourse is not to frighten us, but to give us hope and to tell us where to look. Don’t keep your eyes fixed on the always chaotic and always passing world. Don't focus solely on the unreliable realm of politics or the fleeting bodily life that we live. Keep your eyes fixed on the Son of Man, who links you to the very power of God. Watch for him, wait for him, and find your peace in him.

A Prayer for December

Jesus, Light of the world.
When I am afraid and unsure,
comfort me with the light of Your presence.
When Loneliness chills me,
warm me with the light of Your love.
When the road ahead seems dark,
guide me with the light of Your way.
When I don't understand and my
thoughts are unclear,
fill me with the light of Your wisdom.
When I seem spent like a candle consumed,
replenish me with the light of Your life.
Then, so filled with Your light, use me,
So that I, with You, may be light for the world!

all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28-30)

Where two or three are gathered in my name,
there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20)

If you wish to be perfect,
sell what you have,
give to the poor,

Love your enemies. (Matthew 5:44)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
they will be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6)

Whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers,
you did for me. (Matthew 25:40)

The truth will make you free. (John 8:32)

This is my body, which will be given for you.
Do this is memory of me. (1 Corinthians 11:24)

Take courage.  It is I.  Do not be afraid. (Mark 6:50)

Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat.
But if it dies, it yields an abundant harvest. (John 12:24)

You will be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43)

As I have loved you, you should love one another. (John 13:34,15:12)

I am the resurrection and the life.
Whoever believes in me, even if he dies,
will live forever. (John 11:25)

Forgive them Father...
they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)

Whoever wishes to come with me...
must deny himself,
and take up his cross,
and follow me. (Luke 9:23)

I am with you always,
until the end of time. (Matthew 28:20)

Father, into your hands...
I commend my spirit. (Luke 23:46)

Go into the world...
and proclaim the good news to every creature. (Mark 16:15)

TO MY CHILD . . .
Author Unknown

Just for this morning, I am going to smile when I see your face and
laugh when I feel like crying.

Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear,
and smile and say how perfect it is.

Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick
you up and take you to the park to play.

Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let
you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together.

Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the
computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.

Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble
when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck, and I will buy you
one if he comes by.

Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be
when you grow up, or second-guess every decision I have made where you
are concerned.

Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I
won't stand over you trying to fix them.

Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both
a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.

Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story
about how you were born and how much I love you.

Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get
angry.

Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the
porch and count all the stars.

Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss
my favorite TV shows.

Just for this evening when I run my finger through your hair as you
pray,

I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever
given.

I will think about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their
missing children; the mothers and fathers who are visiting their
children's graves instead of their bedrooms; and mothers and fathers
who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly,
and screaming inside they can't handle it anymore.

And when I kiss you goodnight I will hold you a little tighter, a
little longer. It is then, that I will thank God for you, and ask him
for nothing, except one more day.

December 2 - Jesus Calling

I am the Prince of Peace. As I said to My disciples, I say also to you: Peace be with you. Since I am your constant Companion, My Peace is steadfastly with you. When you keep your focus on Me, you experience both My Presence and My Peace. Worship Me as King of kings, Lord of lords, and Prince of Peace.

You need My Peace each moment to accomplish My purposes in your life. Sometimes you are tempted to take shortcuts, in order to reach your goal as quickly as possible. But if the shortcut requires turning your back on My peaceful Presence, you must choose the longer route. Walk with Me along paths of Peace; enjoy the journey in My Presence.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
—Isaiah 9:6

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Your supper sounds pretty good, Gloria. I've heard of that recipe but never tried it. Glad to hear your hands are better, like most things, healing will take time. I imagine it is taking getting some use to living in an apartment from a house. Are grills not allowed there? Your sister is a blessing. I'm sure you are one to her.

Not a lot more to say so I'll hush. Good night to everyone and may the Lord bless you with all good things. We need to keep our world and country in our prayers.

Be still, and know.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Pause for 2 minutes and read Steve Jobs’ Last Words below. Then reassess how you are living and decide if some priorities need to shift.

"I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world.
In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success.

However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.

In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of god of death drawing closer…

Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth…
Should be something that is more important:

Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me.

God gave us the senses to let us feel the love in everyone’s heart, not the illusions brought about by wealth.

The wealth I have won in my life I cannot bring with me.
What I can bring is only the memories precipitated by love.
That’s the true riches which will follow you, accompany you, giving you strength and light to go on.

Love can travel a thousand miles. Life has no limit. Go where you want to go. Reach the height you want to reach. It is all in your heart and in your hands.

What is the most expensive bed in the world? - "Sick bed" …

You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.
Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost – "Life".

When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading – "Book of Healthy Life".

Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down.

Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends...

Treat yourself well. Cherish others." - Steve Jobs
