Daily Positive Thread for Monday

Hello my friends!  Hope you all had a very blessed Sunday!  We had a baptism at Mass this morning, very inspiring the way Father David does it, all through the Mass in parts.  It was a nice experience for us all to see and then prayers over the Mother and Father of the baby.  The twin baptism is set for the 28th of this month. The day before our Wedding Anniversary.  Today was a very restful day - and the TV was on for the Olympics.  Tomorrow being a long day there, I really rested up today!!  I'll be bringing some Amish Baked Oatmeal there tomorrow.

We are judged by our actions, not by our intentions.  Lord, may I show
my love for You through charity and goodness toward others.

S C R I P T U R E   F O R   T H E   D A Y

"Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."
~Matthew 18:20

M E D I T A T I O N   F O R   T H E   D A Y

"Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."
When God finds two or three of us in union, who only want God's will to
be done, who want only to serve God, God has a plan that can be revealed
to them. The grace of God can come to people who are together in one
place with one accord.  A union like this is miracle-working.  God is
able to use such people.  Only good can come through such consecrated
people, brought together in unified groups for a single purpose and of a
single mind.

P R A Y E R   F O R   T H E   D A Y

I pray that I may be part of a unified group.  I pray that I may
contribute my share to its consecrated purpose.

Extra Prayer

When the world falls down around you
And a prayer will see you through,
Say an extra prayer for someone
Who may need it more than you.

For who knows what hearts are breaking
In the silence of the night?
Just that extra prayer you whisper
May help someone see the light!

Every time you help a stranger
With an extra prayer - or two -
You are building secret blessings
That will all come back to you!

ANNA AND PETER
Author Unknown

Anna and Peter lived happily with their children in a fine house, and Peter held a responsible job in the city. The harmony between the two was a source of strength and joy to each and of edification to everyone who know them. To symbolize their mutual love, Peter planted a rose bush. This flourished, and annually it was covered with glorious roses.

It happened that one day Anna accused Peter of gambling away a large part of his wages, for of late he seemed never to have any money on hand. Peter laughed and began to joke about the matter. She became furious and bounced out of the room slamming the door. Over the next few days, any attempt on his part to speak to her was rudely rejected, and he became very depressed. As time went by, they became more and more isolated from one another, meals were an ordeal and no longer did they enjoy one another's company in the evenings. Even the children were affected by the growing unhappiness of their parents. Soon the situation arose where the original quarrel was forgotten, and a curtain of polite hostility developed, real communication between Anna and Peter ceased, and bitterness entered their hearts. And the rose ceased to bloom.

Peter became ill, and although Anna served his needs, she found she could not get close to him; she was not able to break through the crust of ice which froze her heart. Finally, after a brief illness, Peter died. There was an unexpected crowd of strangers at the graveside. After the burial several of these came to her and spoke of Peter's kindness and generosity in helping them in their need. She hurried home, and found the rose had started to bloom once again. With bursting heart, she entered the house. Near the hall stand were Peter's jogging shoes just as she had thrown them down a few days before.

She picked them up and held them close to her heart, and then wept as she had never wept before.

IDENTIFICATION

Author Unknown

His name is Bill. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans, and no shoes. This was literally his wardrobe for his entire four years of college. He is brilliant. Kind of esoteric and very, very bright. He became a Christian while attending college.

Across the street from the campus is a well-dressed, very conservative church. They want to develop a ministry to the students, but are not sure how to go about it.

One day Bill decides to go there. He walks in with no shoes, jeans, his T-shirt, and wild hair. The service has already started and so Bill starts down the aisle looking for a seat. The church is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By now, people are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says anything.

Bill gets closer and closer and closer to the pulpit, and when he realizes there are no seats, he just squats down right on the carpet. (Although perfectly acceptable behavior at a college fellowship, trust me, this had never happened in this church before!)

By now the people are really uptight, and the tension in the air is thick. About this time, the minister realizes that from way at the back of the church, a deacon is slowly making his way toward Bill. Now the deacon is in his eighties, has silver-gray hair, and a three-piece suit. A godly man, very elegant, very dignified, and very courtly. He walks with a cane and, as he starts walking toward this boy, everyone is saying to themselves that you can't blame him for what he's going to do.

How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some college kid on the floor?

It takes a long time for the man to reach the boy. The church is utterly silent except for the clicking of the man's cane. All eyes are focused on him. You can't even hear anyone breathing. The minister can't even preach the sermon until the deacon does what he has to do. And now they see this elderly man drop his cane on the floor. With great difficulty, he lowers himself and sits down next to Bill and worships with him so he won't be alone.

Everyone chokes up with emotion. When the minister gains control, he says, "What I'm about to preach, you will never remember. What you have just seen, you will never forget.

Prayer

"Heavenly Father, form in me the likeness of your Son and deepen his life within me that I may be like him in word and deed. Help me to live the gospel faithfully and give me strength and courage to not shrink back in the face of adversity and temptation."

August 7 - Jesus Calling

Understanding will never bring you Peace. That’s why I have instructed you to trust in Me, not in your understanding. Human beings have a voracious appetite for trying to figure things out, in order to gain a sense of mastery over their lives. But the world presents you with an endless series of problems. As soon as you master one set, another pops up to challenge you. The relief you had anticipated is short-lived. Soon your mind is gearing up again: searching for understanding (mastery), instead of seeking Me (your Master).

The wisest of all men, Solomon, could never think his way through to Peace. His vast understanding resulted in feelings of futility, rather than in fulfillment. Finally, he lost his way and succumbed to the will of his wives by worshiping idols.

My Peace is not an elusive goal, hidden at the center of some complicated maze. Actually, you are always enveloped in Peace, which is inherent in My Presence. As you look to Me, you gain awareness of this precious Peace.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
—Proverbs 3:5–6

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
—Romans 5:1

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
—2 Thessalonians 3:16

Prayer to Saint Anthony of Padua

Dear Saint Anthony, you are the patron of the poor and the helper of all who seek lost articles. Help me to find the object I have lost so that I will be able to make better use of the time I will gain for God's greater honor and glory. Grant your gracious aid to all people who seek what they have lost - especially those who seek to regain God's grace. Amen.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Monday

thank you Gloriajean! I have Jesus Calling book and read it daily and the piece you posted really hit me like a ton of bricks for Sunday.  I try to understand things that get to me and it makes me crazy sometimes. I see it as a way to control things and of course, we are not in control but I have not learned that very well.  Makes me very anxious when something is going on and i try and figure it out.  So, going through something now, when I read this piece yesterday, God was speaking to me.  Thank you!  Must let go but my hands just will not open.

Had a great chat with my cousin.  Love our Sunday get togethers by phone. She leaves next week to see her son, daughter in law and 4 mnths old grandbaby, Charlotte.  They live in Salt Lake City and my cousin lives in Charlotte, NC.  My cousin has been out several times and of course, is in love with the baby!  Such a gift!

Lucy, prayers for your daughter and son.  Interviews are so tough and weigh heavily on us.  So much stress especially when you want or need the job. Good luck to her! hope things work out for son.  Keep us posted!

Hope you all have a blessed day, filled with joy and miracles.  Embrace the day, give thanks and smile!

Peace,Nancy

@gloriajean

Loved this.  It reminded me when, as a child, driving with my parents at night, I would see houses with lit windows and hope that the people inside were happy.  I would wonder about their lives.  What makes a child think of those things?  This makes me want to say a prayer for every one of them.  My life is blessed most days, so I have the timeCat Happy

Extra Prayer

When the world falls down around you
And a prayer will see you through,
Say an extra prayer for someone
Who may need it more than you.

For who knows what hearts are breaking
In the silence of the night?
Just that extra prayer you whisper
May help someone see the light!

Every time you help a stranger
With an extra prayer - or two -
You are building secret blessings
That will all come back to you!

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Monday

Hello my friends! Long day, but here I am!  Wishing you all the best for Tuesday - may God fill you all with His Blessings.  It was nice to be with the twins again, and will again tomorrow - they really are growing!  8 pounds already and only on Mother's milk.  They seem to have their nights and days mixed up - they like to fuss during the night for Darla.  I wonder how long that will be.  Going again tomorrow and that's it for the week.  I have my eye appointment on Wednesday, it's still not good, just hope I won't have to have the tear duct probed again,  and on Thursday, check up for teeth, and another appointment for my knee coming up for x-ray to see what's going on there.  That'll be another week.  Well, I'll be turning in very soon.  God bless you all!

Knowing about God and knowing God are very different things.
Lord, may I recognize Your workings in my life so that I may
really know You.

S C R I P T U R E   F O R   T H E   D A Y

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they
may have life, and have it abundantly."  ~John 10:10

M E D I T A T I O N   F O R   T H E   D A Y

We can have life and have it more abundantly--spiritual, mental,
physical, abundant life--joyous, powerful life.  These we can have if we
follow the right way.  Not all people will accept from God the gift of
an abundant life, a gift held out free to all.  Not all people care to
stretch out a hand and take it.  God's gift, the richest God has to
offer, is the precious gift of abundant life.  People often turn away
from it, reject it, and will have none of it.  We need not let this be
true of us.

P R A Y E R   F O R   T H E   D A Y

I pray that I may hasten to accept the gift of abundant spiritual life.
I pray that I may live the good life to the best of my ability.

The Unforgettable Ride

Twenty years ago, I drove a cab for a living. It was a cowboy's life,
a life for someone who wanted no boss. What I didn't realize was that it was
also a ministry. Because I drove the night shift, my cab became a moving
confessional. Passengers climbed in, sat behind me in total anonymity, and
told me about their lives. I encountered people whose lives amazed me,
ennobled me, made me laugh and weep. But none touched me more than a woman I
picked up late one August night. I was responding to a call from a small
brick fourplex in a quiet part of town.

I assumed I was being sent to pick up some partiers, or someone who had
just had a fight with a lover, or a worker heading to an early shift at some
factory for the industrial part of town. When I arrived at 2:30 am., The
building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window. Under
these circumstances, many drivers would just honk once or twice, wait a
minute, then drive away. But I had seen too many impoverished people who
depended on taxis as their only means of transportation. Unless a situation
smelled of danger, I always went to the door. This passenger might be
someone who needs my assistance, I reasoned to myself. So I walked to the
door and knocked.

"Just a minute", answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear
something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door
opened. A small woman in her 80s stood before me. She was wearing a print
dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a
1940s movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as
if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with
sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the
counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and
glassware. "Would you carry my bag out to the car?" she said. I took the
suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and
we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness.

"It's nothing", I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way
would want my mother treated". "Oh, you're such a good boy", she said. When
we got in the cab, she gave me an address, then asked, "Could you drive
through downtown?" "It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly. "Oh,
don't mind," she said. "I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice".

I looked in the rearview mirror. Her eyes were glistening. "I don't
have any family left," she continued. "The doctor says I don't have
very long." I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. "What route
would you like me to take?" I asked. For the next two hours, we drove
through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an
elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her
husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a
furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing
as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building
or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said,
"I'm tired. Let's go now." We drove in silence to the address she had
given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a
driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as
soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every
move.

They must have been expecting her. I opened the trunk and took the small
suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. "How
much do I owe you?" she asked, reaching into her purse. "Nothing," I said.
"You have to make a living," she answered.

"There are other passengers," I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent
and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly. "You gave an old woman a
little moment of joy," she said. "Thank you."

I squeezed her hand, then walked into the dim morning light. Behind
me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life. I didn't pick up
any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly, lost in thought.
For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had
gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I
had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a
quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my
life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great
moments. But great moments often catch us unaware--beautifully wrapped in
what others may consider a small one.

House Cleaning

Last Week I threw out WORRYING,
It was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me,
I couldn't do things my way.
I threw out those inhibitions,
They were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
Got rid of my old dreams and doubts.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with New Goals,
Started reading it today.
I threw out childhood toys
(remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
Threw out the one from long ago.

Bought in some new books too,
Called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.
I ran across an OLD FRIEND,
Haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is GOD,
Yes, I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning
And added some thing's Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE and FAITH,
Yes I placed them right on the shelf.
I picked up this special thing
And placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT - its called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble
There just isn't any place.
Its good to do a little house cleaning,
Get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter,
Maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.

August 8 - Jesus Calling

I speak to you from deepest heaven. You hear Me in the depths of your being. Deep calls unto deep. You are blessed to hear Me so directly. Never take this privilege for granted. The best response is a heart overflowing with gratitude. I am training you to cultivate a thankful mind-set. This is like building your house on a firm rock, where life’s storms cannot shake you. As you learn these lessons, you are to teach them to others. I will open up the way before you, one step at a time.

Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
—Psalm 42:7 nkjv

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
—Psalm 95:1–2

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
—Matthew 7:24–25
