If they hit the floor vertically on the edge, they will shatter. I had it happen.
I bought a set from
Joy Mangano 5 or 6 years ago, have dropped more than a few but have only broken one, a salad plate, and that's how it broke.

I wonder if the make up has changed over the 40 plus years since I bought my Corelle. I've been fortunate to never have a piece shatter, though I do have an ever so small chip on one plate.
I wonder if the plate dropping had been rehearsed. I imagine different floors could bring about different results.

Was watching when that happened and thought it was
pretty funny as she was explaining how durable it was when she decided to drop it.
David immediately said "not that one". Camera immediate moved to next product. I believe it was Tara from Temptations. Don't know how she kept a straight face!

Don't know if you see that in the pic but during the live demo the pieces went flying and as you both say lots of tiny little shards.

I was barefoot when I had a plate shatter, plus my dog was at my side. The shards went everywhere.

I've had Corelle for years. Only had one break on my late husband. They are pretty durable for glass. Ohter than that, no chipping and easy to use and clean.

With my messed up hands, Corelle is the only kind of dinnerware that I can handle. Other kinds are just too heavy and too thick to pick up. Love my lightweight Corelle. All of mine is Winter White.

I had it on with no sound as I wasn't interested in watching, but the shattering dish did catch my eye. Funny in a not funny sort of way. She must've felt ridiculous. I had a set many years ago and it was durable, but not THAT durable.

I threw away all my Corelle. My husband was actually cut by an exploding dropped dish. I dropped one a,few months ago also, it exploded too. This time out it goes. Would not give it to charity because I don't want anyone else cut by those dishes. Advised my family to throw them out.
