From the OP's first post I get the feeling she will not be able to ask for the $$.

I also wonder if she is depressed following the passing of her sister. That kind of depression makes one vulnerable.

I wonder what kind of business the OP had.

Why on earth would you let your neighbor scam you a 2nd time. She hasn’t paid you for the first Costco trip. Then she gives you a check for the 2nd? Why are you letting her treat you so poorly. You are allowing that. You may have to go to small claims court to get any of your money back. But please do not take her anywhere or give her any more money. If you get money back let that be the end of contact with this neighbor. She is not someone you want in your life.

@Alsace Gal ............Good Lord why would you let that happen a 2nd time?  You need to cut all communication and ties with your neighbor.  Block her phone, emails and if she has the bells to come to your door dont answer or tell her she is to never darken your door again.

This is the only way she will stop.

@Alsace Gal   I can't really add anything that the other posters haven't already said.  Yes, you are too nice.  Unfortunately, in this case, that is a bad thing.  Your neighbor (and purposely not calling her a friend) took advantage of your kindness.  Hopefully you will be heading over to her bank shortly & are able to cash the check.

Also, hopefully you can get her to pay you back the first amount she owes you.  And I would not take her to the store anymore.  Since she not only drives herself, she is an Uber driver, she is more than capable of taking her sad @$$ anywhere she wants, pardon my French.  I wouldn't deal with her anymore after you hopefully get the money due you back.  Good luck.  Heart

I would give everything I own just to have you back again.......David Gates of Bread

Did you sing this song at camp or scouts?

Here we sit like birds in the wilderness,

Birds in the wilderness,

Birds in the wilderness.

Here we sit like birds in the wilderness

Waiting for the news.

(the last line would change depending on the situation)

@Alsace Gal  Just following up to see if you cashed the check? You indicated you were going to the bank early this morning. Hope it worked out.

I remember some time ago some Banks won't let you cash a check unless you have an account with them so you had to deposit the check at your Bank. Don't know for now.

I still don't understand why the friend couldn't use her Credit Card to pay for the items whether she was a Member or not. As long as the Member is there at the register anyone can pay for the items, unless it's a Card that Cosco does not accept.

Also there are usually ATM machines around. That friend would have had to visit one and get the cash, or I would have said forget about the Gift Cards, which she could get from anywhere besides Cosco and she might have had enough money to pay for the dog food.

Guess she caught @Alsace Gal  off guard. I still believe that the Check will clear.

I also would have called her this morning and say "I'm going to the YOUR Bank to cash the check".

The way this so-called friend/neighbor has been acting, I doubt the check will clear, and I doubt the OP will see a dime of the money she paid the first time they went to Costco.
