Hmmm! My food program is primarily complex carbs, and I am thriving. Carbs got their bad rap from the simple/sweet and sugary kind being what are largely consumed by folks.
I know many that use low carb/high protein methods to lose unwanted weight. I also know none of them are very high on vigorous physical activities.
Yes, I get it, but!

At the risk of being crucified by some (sorry), would you give us a day's menu. I
cannot eat much fiber so I would appreciate your info.
Nope! As I have said many times on the Wellness Forum, I would not suggest to anyone to eat the way I do. It works great for me, but I kinda suspect that most here, do not live my type of lifestyle.
I really don't have "a menu", I pretty much just grab a handful of this/spoonful of that/a banana now and again/milk and almond milk a couple times and so on. This I will share with you. My "Primary" MEAL(?)" for the day? A great big bowl of fresh microwaved popcorn, and every single day, but eaten as the last food of my day(late night)
Guess I kinda shared, but left out the specific handfuls and spoonfuls of this and that.
Stay well my friend,

Hi @cherry
I really don't know your whole history on health, other than you have had many, many different issues with different medical events. Thus I am asking, who is "He", and what do you mean when you say: "wouldn't have made me diabetic"? Don't answer if you want to keep that private, I certainly understand.
Hope things are going better for you. Other than a little this and that with my medical issues, I am going real strong with everything I want to do.
Best to you and your husband,

@hckynut I guess I’m an exception. I’ve been on a low carb/high protein diet for over 20 yrs. There’s diabetes on both sides of my family & I’m tested at my physicals and keep my fasting insulin #s low to stay ahead of the game. I’m working out 4-5 times a day (w/ free weights and cardio & eat enough protein so I do not lose weight....have stayed at ideal weight.

I just eat what I feel like ... but do attempt to maintain a balanced diet.
Based on discussions with doctors and trainers at the gym where I used to go ... I'm eating what I think is best for me.

Thank you for your response. Glad you have found what works best for you, and happy that your genetic predisposition has not effected you. Far from an expert on diabetes and insulin numbers, what you are doing is obviously working against those double whammy genetics.
Myself on low carbs and high protein resulted in poor running/skating, and all resistance exercise limits. I tried it several different ways over the years, and high complex carbs and adequate protein levels is the best route for me.
My concerns were/are cardiac and pulmonary efficiency, along with strong and very flexible muscles and connective tissues. Has worked well for me for staying physically fit(except for my several medical setbacks), along with being to choose what weight I chose/choose to be a any given time.
My weight has never been a "constant", but mainly because it was my choice. Scale weight has not meant much to me since the late 1970's, only my accurate Body Composition Makeup has been, and is, the only measure I care about.
Keep doing what works for you and be well,

Good morning @hckynut. Sounds like you’re really active and your diet helps you maintain your fitness. I started gymnastics at 4 or 5, learned to eat healthy and stayed w/ clean eating before anyone knew what it was. I was coached through high school and college. That level of competitive fitness required a lot of calories to maintain my weight...then around 95 lbs. of mostly muscle...at 4’11” in 6th grade, that was great. I grew a few inches in junior high to 5’1” and was able to stay w/ gymnastics on my college team....Dad & brother were over 6’ (Mom is 5’2”), but I began to worry when I saw those few inches in height. Anyway, diet (healthy, not to lose weight) has always been important to me even before the genetics entered the picture. Too much meat/chicken/fish protein is tough on the kidneys, so ate a lot of complex carbs, tofu, beans, etc. Now 70, have stayed around 100 lbs. (+ or - 5 lbs.). I’m still running, but working into just a cardio walk, better on my joints, lift weights to retain muscle and lots of yoga to keep flexible. It’s been my way of life, like you, and second nature. I do add some good carbs, sweet potatoes and veggies w/ carbs. Bread/pasta are all whole wheat to keep numbers in check. Enjoyed sharing our workout/athletic/diet history.
