CapitalOne website gives free credit reports for everyone for free even if you do not have a CC card with them.

Discover.com also offers it without hurting your credit.  That's what I did.  You don't need a Discover credit card to get it there.

@shiningstar  I wound not go to credit karma, instead a better one, experian.com.  They list & track all three of the big ones that note your credit, what's owed, lots of good info.  It's a really good idea to check your report out to see what's on it because it's possible to have info that belongs to your parents, siblings due to the same surname (as well if you're named after a family member).

You can easily clean up your report and get things removed if they do not belong to you.  It will take a little time because they will check your info to see if it's really your's or not.

Spend time to do this, you won't be sorry.

i use credit karma......it seems to be a great site and app. i like how it sends me alerts if they see any changes.

i also get scores via my personal credit cards for free. most of them have the service that you can add, including discover and capital one.

Credit Karma.com

No offense Patbz - Credit Karma is typically off 20-30 points ... and you will be setting yourself up for solicitations from credit card companies.  I made this mistake ...

Google for the free government site - Equifax, TransUnion and I forgot the 3rd reporting agency.

There is no such thing as "a credit score".  Each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and Trans Union) have their own proprietary software which creates the algorithm used to create your score.  In addition not all creditors report your information to all three bureaus so the data used to create your score can vary depending upon which creditors are reporting the information used by which bureau.  THat is why the scores you get from various "free" providers like Discover or Credit Karma can differ.  It depends on which bureau they are getting the score from.  YEars ago that was not the case.  The Fair Issacs Corporation developed the software  for thebureaus to create a credit score and each credit bureau used the same software.  NOw in order to differentiate themselves each bureau uses a custom version of the program which weights different factors differently causing credit scores to be different for each agency.  THat is why you will get different scores from each agency.
