My computer (IPAD...Apple) updated itself during the night a few days ago...nothing's been the same since!!!

What did I miss?

Turn OFF automatic downloads and/or updatings.  You can do so manually at your leisure.

Me personally.........I  NEVER let a "Mac" do anything automaticallly.  I am in control of  the OS, NOT the other way around.

Turn on or turn off automatic updates

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iTunes & App Store. Then turn on or turn off App Updates.

Turn off automatic downloads
  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iTunes & App Store. Under Automatic Downloads, turn off Apps.

Can someone who is tech savvy explain to me why Apple  updates are so iffy. Don't they test them before they're released?

Yes, Apple test new updates & upgrades.  Most times they have "beta" testers.  Public beta testers tests the "upgrades."    The rest (updates) are done in house.

No iOS & OS updates & upgrades are perfect.  Very few are actually"buggy."   The MAJORITY of folks have no issues at all.  I only have Macs (OS).  The only OS I download (manually) are the COMBO updates.  Never ever an issue.  I do not own any iOS devices so unknown if there are COMBO downloads for them.  You would have to check Apple's software download website.  NOT the App store.

You do not have to upgrade (brand new) everytime one comes out.  I always wait till the 3rd version.  I let everyone else battle the bugs.  By the 3rd version, the bugs have all been ironed out.  I don't fix what ain't broken.

Updates are mostely "security updates."

The most important thing you can do on any Apple product when updating and upgrading is to ALWAYS RESTART the device if it does not do so automatically.

I never update my iPad untilI research if the update is necessary or if it causes more issues than it solves.

Re: COMPUTER UPDATED ?#!?#!?#

We do not allow our devices to automatically update. But husband pays attention to Apple update news. He always knows the bad updates. If it were just me, I'd be doing automatic updates and having the same issues as you. Hope this gets fixed ASAP.
