@Calcgirl, I would give them gift cards to a favorite restaurant or tickets to a show that they would like to see.  I like the idea of donating to a shelter in their name, but you might also want to purchase a subscription box of cooking.  I think you can do any of these while keeping your budget in check.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!
