Sweetie, I think something went off the rails there in your tree.  Or... you have one hell of straight line ancestry, lol.

This thread cracked me up.  I'm not being mean, jewel, you and me are buddies.

@Mz iMac  nearly made me joke to death on a mint with her reaction.

Well, I'm going with the "I'm royalty" line until I find out otherwise, but I'm not looking too hard!😉😂

Seriously, I do think there are BIG problems with my tree, but not sure where it went wrong! Not sure how pricey hiring a professional is, but I might have to! Until then, I may change my screen name to HRH! 😂😂😂

Never underestimate the power of kindness.

Re: Ancestry.com famous relatives?

I can no longer access my list since I elected not to give Ancestry any more of my $$ on a continuing basis and can see very little any more. But at one time there was a thing I bookmarked that told you who were your cousins many times removed, etc. The one I remember being happiest about was Edgar Allan Poe is my 7th cousin.

Re: Ancestry.com famous relatives?

I have two famous last names......one a composer, the other a scientist.    I am not related to either of them.........however, the "mouthful" of foreign-sounding names has caused some "suspicious" strangers to doubt my citizenship.............

@Moonchilde: My SIL in process of doing my family history. Excited to see her results. Her church owns ancestry.com and she has conducted group sessions on how to research. I started a few years ago but frustrated with request for more money etc. SouthernBee

I had no problem paying while I was actively seeking and working on my tree - for 3-4 years, I think. But at this point I doubt there is much if anything else I can add to it, and am retired now so don't have the $ to "waste" when I don't visit the site much any more. Once you're not paying, you have minimal access. I got all of the info I needed from the US Census records, which led me to other peoples' public trees.

I must be the only person in the world who could care less about their ansestory background.  I know nothing about it and do not care at all I could care less about dead people.... Theyare dead.  They are not me and do not pay my bills unless they want to leave me a huge inheritance.  Then I will aknowledge them!

Have any of you done a lot of work on your family trees through Ancestry? If so, have you found lots of famous relatives?

Ancestry is only good if you are searching Amercan sources.  So - for census records, military / draft records, Social Security registration and death record / city directories.

We've only been in the US since 1852 (first arrival - 1891 was the last), so the majority of our research took place at federal and municipal archives, library microfilm of old newspapers, and the LDS Family History Center - microfilms of European church record and books.  Along with contacting the archives in Europe in/near the cities my ancestors lived.  They have all been wonderful to deal with ... and have provided me with a wealth of documents.  My earliest entry is a 1550 birth record.

No one famous ... but there are some ancestors whose names appear in history books, and some who have written books.
