@VegasBusinessWoman , around here all you need for concealed carry is to pass a backgrouond check. We are also an open carry state with absolutley no requirements for that. There's occasionally a bill introduced to make the state just a carry state, but I'm against that. I don't mind forking over a few dollars a year to the Sheriff's office for my CC permit. I know a law won't keep unlawful concealed carry, but I do think it should be in place.
I've been around guns all my life, but I did take a gun safety course several years ago, just because. That's when I learned I really didn't care for semi-automatics. I think everybody that keeps a gun, especially for self protecction, should practice using it regularly.
@Icegoddess In Nevada you have to demonstrate your ability to handle a gun. You also have to have taken a gun safety course, which DH and I did years ago. I need to get out to the range more. DH and I used to go together regularly, but since he has been so ill, he can't go anymore. Gotta get together with a couple of my gal pals and go out to the gun park now that the weather is getting nicer. Still want to replace that Keltec with something else.

@VegasBusinessWoman I wish I had some lady friends to go to the range with. I get a little nervous with my husband. He goes all the time with a friend, almost on a weekly basis.

@NicksmomESQ You're not the only one! I've also never held a gun. I guess it's also how you've been raised.

I am so not a gun fan!
And it's probably well and good for the best, since I AM, a true klutz!

@NicksmomESQ nothing wrong with that. It's good that you know that about yourself rather than think you need to get a gun for protection and then not learn how to handle it as many do.

Me too.I am terrified to shoot but I have held one.My dh was a cop 🚓 and once when he was away I was awakened during the night and grabbed the gun and went room to room sticking it in the door ahead of me.Mu dh told me that a person could have just grabbed the gun and used it against me.That was the only time I touched that gun.

Oh, that is not the time to handle a gun for the first time or to find out that the safety is on or that a bullet had not been loaded into the chamber (different than the gun being loaded). And then walking around the house trying to find the intruder?
I keep mine next to the bed. It has no safety, so I leave the first chamber empty just to guard against accidentally pulling the trigger when I'm pulling it out. I have no plans to go searching through the house. The bed is my place to set up and aim for the doorway. If I have the time, I can open the window for an escape route, but I'll guard my castle from the bed. There are no children in the house, but we do keep it in a gun safe that is attached to the leg of the bed by a cable so it doesn't get stolen. It's a big wooden Bob Timberlake bed, so someone is not just lifting that leg up to get the cable off.

I recently purchased my first gun, an M&P 380 Shield EZ. Recommended by my brother as being easier to use. I have to wait for warmer weather, then he’ll start giving me lessons.
I’ve done a little target practice but honestly, I’m a true beginner. So I’m looking forward to learning. I don’t know if I’ll ever do more than shooting at targets but it will be interesting and my brother is the best person to teach me.
