@LdyBugz   Your pictures look what I'm dealing with, with one exception.  Some of the rash is like yours, sort of all over me,  but some of the rash came out in big long streak-like welts that were red and itchy.  Most of those big welts came out on my hip and abdomen area.   And to think, only 2 Clindamycin pills caused it!

@ciao_bella  Could the welts be from you scratching?  It's so hard trying not to scratch when the itchiness is so intense and unbearable.

Hopefully you will clear up quickly.  I feel bad for you!

Re: Allergies to Antibiotics... RASH and ITCH...

Yes, I have allergies to both of those antibiotics -- and two more fairly common ones. Anytime I need antibiotics (which isn't often, thankfully), the PA/Doc and pharmacist are all breaking out books to make sure nothing could possibly contain one of the four I'm allergic to.  Appreciate their extreme diligence. I always read the documentation that come with prescriptions, because I caught a topical that contained a drug I was allergic to one time.

Sorry you experienced this and especially that Urgent Care kind of dismissed your reaction. That stinks. But glad you now know so that you can avoid this drug in the future!

@ciao_bella  I'm sorry you had to go through that. That sounds like a very bad reaction. I've tried Clindamycin, and didn't have a rash but terrible GI issues, so stopped it right away. Any form of Prednisone gives me the reaction you just experienced. I think my doctor called it urticaria. It's very difficult to suffer through. I hope you feel better very soon.

@ciao_bella   I am allergic to about every antibiotic there is. Some I have been allergic to most of my life. But slowly starting  when I was late 40's-50's I became allergic to about every antibiotic there was.  My Dr told me same thing, the body all of a suddenly can decide this. In fact when I had diverticulitis I had to be admitted to hospital for 7-10 days to take a special IV antibiotic, the disease control center picked. Also, many people are allergic to some drugs today because they are actually allergic to the additives and fillers added to generic drugs today.  Each company uses different fillers, dyes and quantity  of fillers. I can't take a certain pain med from our cvs in town because of the filler.  I have to get same drug at Costco that uses another drug manufacturer. When the pill from cvs and the one from Costco was compared side by side, the one from cvs was more than twice the size.   Just more filler.  And the filler is what gave me go to hospital reaction!  Go figure.  They don't always list what they fill with either

@ciao_bella   the wells, urticaria can itch like crazy for days.  I had hives for 7 weeks from an injectable drug for RA.  It wasn't the drug, it was the filler again.  The hives last as long as it takes to get out of system.  Warm bath and shower make worse.  I uses bug bit medication on itchy ones, and had to take benedryl everyday. They would go away, but reappear when I needed another dose. I also got them from Cipro

Re: Allergies to Antibiotics... RASH and ITCH...

@ciao_bella  - I am allergic to so many antibiotics that I have to wear a medical bracelet naming them all.  Penicillin is one of them.  Had such a bad reaction - bright, fire engine red rash head to toe, severe swelling over entire body, and other symptoms.  Have been told that if I get any "cillin" antibiotics again, it could be fatal.  This allergy did not appear until I was in my mid 20's after I had my DD.  Not saying this will happen to you but I would consider getting a medical bracelet that has the name of the antibiotic on it so if you can't speak for yourself, then the info is on the bracelet.

Re: Allergies to Antibiotics... RASH and ITCH...

I went through this for years until last year when a BIG revelation came and healing

In the past I was diagnosed with all sorts of stuff because really no one could figure it out until last year

A a doctor who practices natural medicine and a nutritionist lead me to healing and I haven't suffered since

I was diagnosed with Histamine Intolerance and it started with a drastic change in what I ate and took internally

MANY of the foods that we believe are healthy for us have a HIGH content of histamines and these become foods that trigger histamine in our system

The symptoms are many:

fatigue, nasal congestion, hives and flushing, respiratory, sneezing, headaches, fatigue, irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, gastro problems etc...

Basically an inabillty to digest histamine thus a reaction

It's now considered and by The AAAI which is the academy of allergy and immunology classifies it

as controversial but

its not food allergies it is histamine allergy

I suffered every year for ten years until last year

Change your diet, eliminate or ratiuon HIGH histamine foods

Fresh unprocessed foods and anything cured ( like and esp lunch meats

Eating vitamin C helps and here's the kicker.... STRESS

If you are stressed which I was when I went through these flares

naturally but only in my clife situation

All the antibiotics and steroids my doctors prescribed were not the answer and only made the problem worse

But it was the diet change and I am not free lol

I also lost 30 pounds

@ciao_bella ..................Yes after taking Penicillin all my life I had a very bad throat infection about 3 years ago.  The doc gave me Penicilln.  After taking a pill at bed time I became nauseated, had diarrhea along with projectile vomiting for a solid 4 hours.  So I am now allergic to ALL the "cillins."

The doc I worked for years ago told me that a person can become allergic to anything at any time.

Added:  You are lucky with just the welts and itching.  Your throat could have swelled and your breathing cut off.  You would have been in real trouble then.

Hope your itchies clear up soon.
