Re: About nose rings....

[ Edited ]

As far as I'm concerned, it is very unsanitary and gross.  It always looks like they have something hanging out of their nose (sorry) that is badly in need of a tissue or handkerchief.

I don't see what it is trying to convey.  They only have to look at it in the mirror, but subject it to others all the time.  I usually make eye contact with people when talking.  If they have a nose ring or multiple face piercings, I refuse to look at them because it is something that I just can't tolerate.

I have already reported them to their management, especially in retail and restaurants and received thank yous.

When I see the multiple face piercings, especially the nose rings .... it honestly almost makes me sick to my stomach.  I have to turn away.  Those people don't have to worry about me staring at them, that's for sure.

@12andcounting  Yes, I forgot about the "sick  to my stomach".  It does me, too.  So gross!

they aren't for me, but if done tastefully a certain way they look good. I don't mind tiny diamond or gold stud, tiny!  Or a small, thin gold hoop very small. They actually look good. On some upyou have to get up close to see them. My hairdresser is  in her 60's,  and one grand 25 has one of those. I don't care for those black hoops and the black nose rings that look like Bossy the cow. Some of the meaning has to do with music cults, and life style cults. And some because they like it.

some distaste for those piercings has to do with many things, and age is among them. The younger kids look at it different. In 1964-5 , I went against moms orders and had ears pierced, my  girlfriend did it with potato and thread lol. When my mom saw she was sure I was headed for skid row. She was convinced only hoochie, sleezy life  girls did that, and I was a marked woman forever.   lol. Women her age and group didn't do such things. She was mortified.  Might be how some of us feel about some body piercings.

Personally, I don't see the point, think they're kind of ridiculous and not attractive. There are lots of other ways to 'individalize' oneself or make a statement, such as it is, if that's the goal.

LOL. Only sluts, tramps and barbarbians got piercings according to my mother dearest, @shoekitty.

I was actually married when it suddenly dawned on me that I was now in charge of me. It hurt and I only have one in each lobe 🥹

Curious if one of the words I used will pass the censor. She said it often. You don't hear it much now.

@tansy  I had to laugh because I can hear my mom saying all those thing and more, plus a few ethnic references.  I think ear piercing was just gaining popularity, by the 70's most women had pierced ears!  I personally don't believe in getting my daughters ear pierced as a babies.  And my daughters didn't either with their daughters. We believe it is a person choice, and my daughters, grands can make the choice themselves when appropriate age.  It made for a pretty exciting and special day when they went to get them pierced, and they got to choose the post. But when I pierced my ears I don't remember shops that did it. It was a do it yourself thing. Lol

Nose piercings don't bother me as much as tongue piercings. Talk about gross especially if you are having a meal with a person.

I've wondered what the dentist and hygienist think when working on patients with tongue and lip piercings.
