Besides my tooth falling out and a root canal, peg and temporary tooth (front one no less) on Mother's Day wouldn't be enough, DH had surgery scheduled for yesterday.

He has had a really huge vein on the back of his thigh that needed to be removed. The hospital is under construction but he was able to walk from the parking lot to the hospital (huge UNC Hospital complex). The transport "train" was not working, horrendous traffic at 6AM, so really long walk across the bridge to building.

His surgery was long. The small waiting room was very crowded, so I wore my mask for 5 1/2 hrs. Sign on the wall said no eating or drinking and couldn't go to cafe since loaded down with my tote bag of reading materials and they gave me his bag of clothing to carry around. They usually put it under the bed.

Of course, the hospitals are short staffed and he waited in "pre-procedure" until he almost missed the 10AM surgery since needed IV, hooking up to monitors, etc. They called me back when he was undressed and after an hour w/ no attention, I started raising h*ll, (but lady like. Smiley Happy

He came through the surgery fine, thanks G*d and his leg is wrapped from ankle to thigh w/ a tight bandage and couldn't walk back to parking garage and no "train". I can't find my

behind with both hands...sense of direction stinks....always  has. I'm on my own finding my new car that I still never find in a sea of other silver/grey cars on floor 3D. I was in a sweat, but did it! Next hurdle was weaving through the construction and workers flagging the way back to hospital patient pick up.

DH is home and resting kind of comfortably. We have pre-op in an hour and then he wears a "rubber stocking" ankle to thigh...He's worried about sitting at hs desk to work since should be up and walking every hour.

Getting older is no fun. It crept up on us all at once and I hope all calms down now until dentist again for me at end of June. Two more appts. to get my tooth (peg) checked if healed and second appt. for permenent tooth. Nitrous, here I come again.

****Oh, worst part is beach weekend canceled with the GDs.

@Shanus

Sorry to see your are going through these very tough times. Wishing both of you the the best with these issues.

Can relate to this by over 12 years of similar situations with my wife and I. Her with her 13 abdominal surgeries/a stroke, and me with multiple times with weeks spent in the hospitals, which also always seemed to be "under construction".

I have never related any of these things to my age. Stuff just happened to me/us, at times for unknown reasons.

Stay strong and optimistic,

@Shanus   Wow, it has been a rough few weeks.  I have no sense of direction either and at times it is embarassing and irritating.

I hope you husband can get that sock on and off comfortably.  Currently my husband is wearing a support stock on one leg...getting it off is difficult.

Hope his healing proccess goes smoothly and quickly.

Sometimes when it rains it pours.  Those times can be very "trying".  Sounds like things are looking up and  that there are better days ahead.  Praying for a quick recovery.

@Shanus ... Sending you and your dear husband healing thoughts and wishing you both a speedy full recovery.

Lately, it seems everyone I know including me and my DH are going through something unexpected medically speaking.

We need to slow down and gather our collective strength at times.  Again, wishing you well. Cat Happy

@Shanus Sorry to hear about your frustrating health issues.  I hope your DH has a speedy recovery!

I have an appointment at the dentist in the middle of June and one of my fillings (upper) came out and needs to be replaced.  I can imagine him telling me that it looks like root canal time!

Never fear losing your car in a parking lot again if you have an "alarm" button on your car's keypaid (provided you have a keypad).

Just push that alarm and your car will very loudly announce its whereabouts.

I lose track of mine all the time. It's a white SUV that seems to have a hundred look-alike cousins in the same place, same time.

In fact, I've had a series of experiences with people trying to get into my car because they think it's theirs.  I did the same thing once.

@novamc1 I have a funny story.  About 15 years ago when I had a brand new light blue Honda CRV I tired to put packages into the back of it after shopping at my local craft store.

I had packages and couldn't understand why the back hatch door wasn't opening.  After trying multiple times I looked up and noticed a man sitting in the drivers seat calmly watching me.  When I looked up he came out and said that he was wondering what I was doing...all of a sudden I noticed my car sitting two cars over and it was the exact same car!

I was embarrassed and apologized but it was so funny!

Now I have a silver SUV and I still have a hard time finding the car .

@Shanus  What an ordeal you and your husband have been through. One incident is bad enough, but they seem to come in bunches. Too bad about your beach weekend too.

I hope that you and your husband both heal quickly and can get back to normal soon. Good luck with your tooth.

@jlkz   Oh,  YES, I've used your tip about using your phone to take pictures of EXACTLY where I'm parked when I visit a medical facility, ESPECIALLY if the medical bldg has NUMEROUS exits/entrances.  This has really eased my stress!
