If you haven't already done so, stop by one of them and ask for information on how to select something for pain relief, as opposed to recreational use.  Then you can do more research online if you like.

I had stage 3 kidney cancer a couple of years ago(kidney was removed during the pandemic break)..I also have osteo arthritis in my shoulders and back..the only thing they will allow me to take is Gabapentin(really for nerve pain) and Extra Strength Tylenol if need be..Frankly neither help much some days...They said No NSAID'S.

I did try Voltaren cream when it was a script..didn't do much either...DH had to wear gloves to put it on my shoulders..His cardioligist insisted because it is absorbed into the skin..which was a no-no for his heart.

A heating pad is my friend. Warning.. Don't use a pain patch or pain rub with the heating pad!!!

Geeze..I hate this getting old stuff!

Feel better everyone.

Friendly warning for anyone here .... Voltaren is toxic to cats!  DO NOT let them lick you skin if you've applied Voltaren!

Personally, I don't use a heating pad because I don't want to put heat on something that is already inflamed.  Maybe it works for some, but I thought it was counter-intuitive.

@Tinkrbl44.  Very toxic to dogs too.  I believe I once posted such a warning in "Pets".  I occasionall6 use it on my knee and my dogs are very attracted to it.  It does help my knee.

Thank you.   After reading all ingredients, as a person with shellfish allergies, I wouldn't take the chance.

Personally, I don't think menthol and camphor do much for pain relief.  Menthol?   Hey, maybe it helps others, but I have tried products with those ingredients, and without an actual analgesic, I found they to be pretty much useless.  JMO, of course.

@SilleeMee.  Based on the ingredients, I'd guess it's pain-relieving capabilities are very sketchy.  It probably stinks like it's hot stuff though.

@Tinkrbl44.  That's what my sister did and she got relief but it's kind of expensive.

Re: TIME RELEASE PAIN RELIEVERS

I have taken both without a noticeable difference. 8 hr is good to take before bed.  Best relief is when I "cheat" and add an Advil or Aleve.

I also use otc Lidocaine patches and I do get relief from my hip pain. It's only a 1% difference between otc and script versions. I like that it also comes in a roll on. There is no smell like the menthol/camphor ones and Walgreens always has them on sale and BJ's sells a 3 pk of the Aspercreme Roll on at a decent price and there are coupons sometimes. The patches come in different sizes and you can keep them on for 8 hours.

Anything that really works is bad for us  *sigh*

Re: TIME RELEASE PAIN RELIEVERS

A few months ago I awoke with severe pain and aches through my whole body, severe enough I cried.
My dear sister had RH and I found a bottle of Tylenol  8 hour Arthritis pain, 225 caplets,

650 mg each.

I started taking two before bed and it was magic, no pain during the night and through the day.

After a few weeks I decided to take just one and I still have pain but not like before.

@Tinkrbl44  I've been buying the time release Tylenol capsules and think they work faster than regular advil or Tylenol. I don't use very often though so am not worried about organ problems.

@Jo1313 - I just had a kidney removed 12 days ago.  I've been told about No NSAIDS too.

Several years ago, when I was first diagnosed with RA, my Rheumatologist's nurse advised me to figure out what worked best for me, and then see who would pay for it.
