I knew someone who spoke the term pot purry and I had no idea what she meant. Here's what she meant: potpourri!  And that's pronounced po pooree with the accent on the last syllable. Mispronounciations are only serious if they come across as meaningless but I do agree that those in the pubic eye ought to perfect their speaking habits for the sake of good communication and setting a good example.

One thing everyone needs to consider is the difference between "lose" and "loose." I can't understand the difficulity here; they are two different words. You don't speak of "loosing" your wallet; you "lose" it, it's "losing," pronounced "loozing."  Almost every user review I read anywhere messes this up!

Honestly, it hurts my ears to hear French words pronounced with an American or English accent.  I would never say POYN-TELL, I would always think PWAHN-TELL.

From what I see in online sources .... there are two pronunciations,  one English and one French.

My Petty Peeve?

Using AXE for ASK.  If you AXE a question you chop it out.
