IMO, anything that is not at least 14K is costume jewelry.

Value wise, you're correct.  There are some jewelry stores where 10K is not allowed.

Silver is a precious metal, bravo to members defending it Smiley Happy

Before 20th century many regal jewelries were made with silver, and some gold.

Demeaning silver value does not make sense. If it is good for a queen, it is good for a lay person.

Value based, fine jewelry are somethings expensive. When jewelry are made, the cost is based on design, stone, I guess rarity of it,  and gram weight and place where it was manufactured. If the stone is big, the cost would be bigger, even if there is miniscule amount of gold there.

Glass could be expensive, look at Baccarat and Lalique pieces set in sterling silver.

Designer silver is as good as any gold pieces, same as natvie American jewelry. Everyone knows how pricey it could be.

I believe Tiffany sell more sterling pieces than gold, and the price of their sterling leave you speechless.

Tiffany does sell more silver.  Because of the price of gold has slipped out the of the hands that used to order Tiffany gold routinely.
