In the before picture, the room is too dark and the ceiling appears too low.

 

I much prefer the after picture with the lighter appearance but don't care for the upper fireplace treatment as the lines are too straight. The accessories struggle to make a statement and the chandelier placement is wrong, for me. Still, the room is much nicer, overall.
