@wilma The original reminds one of a dungeon as it is quite dark. I much prefer the lighter version as it appears to be a more cheerful arena.

I would have been VERY depressed in the first room. What a beautiful redo! I love the entire look, but it would be the least used living space in my home. Because of it's beauty, I would entertain there occasionally- and PRAY.😁

Very pretty redo...I would just change the throw pillows and switch out the decor on the built ins to green leafy plants.

@wilma I definitely like the "after" room. So light and bright. There was a time when I thought, "there's a special place in H$LL for people who paint woodwork". Then we moved into a planned community where all the woodwork was painted a soft cream and I was transformed into a painted woodwork lover. BTW, if you wanted stained woodwork, there would be an extra charge. Don't really know what that cost would be, but didn't want to add anymore expenses to the cost.

I like the curve above the fireplace rather than what they did in the second photo.
There's too much white in this room. I don't like white sofas for obvious reasons. No tables beside the sofas for lamps, not that there's room for any.
I don't think this modern furniture does justice to the rustic stone fireplace and I don't like the white cabinets on either side. The dark cabinets gave the fireplace presence.
Not a comfy, cozy room, IMO.
Agree with you, @Foxxee . The before-and-after strikes me as phony and overly staged. The redo is flooded with light from the overhead fixture and from the windows on the left side of the photo. In the before pic, the overhead lights are turned off and only a sliver of the windows to the left is shown, resulting in such a dark and gloomy shot that the viewer can't even tell the actual color of the painted walls.

The first pic is like living in night time during the day. NOPE
I much prefer the 2nd pic, What a major difference .. for the better. It's so much brighter, cheerier. The room needs some color & I would change out the sofas. White's not practical in our home.
I could easily live there (but, more so after my changes.)

What do you think of the changes made in this room?
I like the room better after the changes.
I like the lighter paint color which brightens up the space. It helps the fireplace look striking and beautiful. I love the windows and the built-ins on both sides of the fireplace.
Not loving all the furnishings & accessories though. I would prefer the sofas in a darker color. I don’t like the pillows, the accessories on the built-ins, and the round coffee table. The flooring, rug, sheers, and ceiling light are ok.
Beautiful. So light and bright . I Love it.

I like the re-do except for the new chandelier....

I thought there was poor lighting in the before too. I didn’t notice that change in the fireplace. I agree with you. I would have kept the original shape.
